Horrible pain during and after pooping

Great! Another symptom! :(

Well I've been a bit constipated for awhile now (2 weeks) mainly due to pain meds. I would go 2x-3x a week and it was on the thin side which also led me believe I was still dealing with a stricture.

Yesterday I had to go to the restroom and while it was a bit difficult, I knew I was a little backed up, so I wasn't worried. And my poop was actually normal sized (width), which made me happy.

Ten minutes after the first round I had to go again. This time it hurt. Afterwards it even felt like I had a bit of poop stuck in me still and my bottom had a "burning" sensation.

Today I go again and it feels like i'm passing glass! My stools also look very dark, and look/feel hard as well. Well I was curious, so I examined my butt in the mirror and my anus looks a bit swollen. This was hours ago and my butt still hurts. Just sitting here, I have a weird heavy sensation and a bit of pain/burning.

Any idea how I can get some relief? Or what could be going on? I was looking up a few things...could this be a fissure? I was supposed to turn in a stool sample tomorrow, but I may not be able to. Just the thought of going to the bathroom now has me terrified!

From my experience that passing glass type of feeling is usually a fissure. If the discomfort is that bad, you'll want a doctor to check it out and prescribe something to numb the pain and heal it up... Anusol or rectiv... Something along those lines.

For me nifedipine .3 percent compound ointment is a wonderful thing for healing the fissures. You'll need a prescription for it and a pharmacy that makes it. For numbing your rectal area so you can go without the horrendous pain, my preferred cream is dibucaine ointment by fougera. It's over the counter. I have gotten mine in stores but also from Amazon online.

These are the two things that offer the best relief for me when I am dealing with active fissures, which is often. I hope you find things that work for you.

Thanks for the responses. Today was filled with horrible, horrible pain. Even sitting in the car was driving me crazy. It really sucks because many of the stool softeners (which is a treatment for fissures) contain fiber, but I'm supposed to be on the low-res diet in case I have a stricture, so I'm in a catch-22 right now.

Shiny: I saw the dibucaine online, but not in stores. I was only able to locate Pep-H, so hopefully this provides some relief for the time being.

Sounds like a fissure.
Ouch.
Rectogesic works very well to heal.
Calmoseptine to soothe.
Baby wipes to wipe.
Sitz bath after every BM if possible.
Those rubber rings you can sit on - they do actually help and provide relief.

Hope you feel better soon.

For the dibucaine in the stores you might have to ask the pharmacy staff as it may be behind the counter but you should not need a prescription to buy it. There is another over the counter numbing cream called recticare. It has lidocaine in it. For me though, it doesn't work as effectively as the dibucaine and it is about triple the price.

Other things that aid me when the pain is as you are describing: heating pad to lower back; if I'm on the go (for example in the car) the therma care heated bandage wraps as don't need a plug in for those; hot as can stand baths; muscle relaxant; sometimes pms medication (not sure why but it helps some).

I hope it eases for you soon.

@Shiny: Thanks for the info. Hopefully everything helps sooner than later. Who would've thought a small tear would cause so much pain. Sheesh! Just last week I was praying to have a normal bowel movement, now I'm afraid to pass stool at all! :-(

@Samboi @Shiny

How soon did you get relief/healing from these products? I've only been dealing with this dreaded fissure for for days and it's driving me crazy. The pain is the most horrible feeling ever! I'm afraid to go to the bathroom which is ironic...as dealing with cd, I would pray for a healthy bm. :(

Hope you get some relief asap I know how it can be. In the mean time get yourself sat on a heat pack! I sit on mine all the time and the cars heated seats are a god send lol. My fingers are crossed for you

Thanks Novice! How are you holding up with your fissure? This is prob THE worst pain I've ever had. Sheesh!

I dont really suffer too bad but I have some mighty Hemorrhoids lol. It got so bad at one point I laid on my front in the passenger seat completely reclined lol this was after seeing my gi and telling him if I couldn't sit there was no way he was putting any thing where the sun don't shine lol so we weren't sure if I had hemmys and a fissure or an abscess I just made him treat it as aggressively as poss cos it was dibiliating!! Just as a suppository + heat would kick in id need a bm and the process restarted lol. Luckily its never gotten that bad since (touch wood) and wouldn't wish it on anyone so I really hope you find something soon!!

Aw, you poor thing! I've been resting on my stomach too! Lol! And I hope you get better soon! This sucks! Lol!

My last major fissure disaster was so bad I ended up with a stoma for 18 months.
It's was a real debacle.
It was out of control perianal disease at its worst. The CRS had not seen anything like it.

I've had plenty if fissures since then - had one last week in fact.
It healed pretty quickly and the key was the rectogesic.
But I now throw everything at them as I don't want to have a stoma again.
Ever!!!

Oh. And this is kinda gross - but it will give you relief.
Take a stool softener like lacdol so your BM is a softy.
If you poop in the shower with super hot water sprayed directly on your butt - it is actually slightly more manageable and really relieves the pain.
But then you have to disinfect everything.
Big time!
But my god it was the least painful.
In the end - I could only poop with the aid of morphine.

Wow I'm sorry to hear that Samboi! I hope you're feeling better now!

and no worries...nothing grosses me out...esp if it provides relief! lol! I may have to try that though if things don't improve.

Today was actually a good day though. I didn't have to poop today, so therefore, I had no pain. I just applied a bit of neosporin (I'm waiting for all my "fissure products" from amazon) and went to get my remicade infusion. I had no butt spasms, pain, nothing. I would even walk normal (fast) and sit down hard -- I almost forgot I have a fissure.

It really sucks I don't have insurance right now. I would love to try the rectogesic. Hopefully I am still able to heal without that product. A part of me is hoping I don't poop for awhile. Maybe that will give time for my fissure to heal? But I know that's not good to not poop.

My CRS explained it really well -
You don't heal a cut on your hand by smearing poop all over it!!
So no poop is good!

Sounds like you might be getting better though - fingers crossed!
