I was diagnosed 5 years ago. I've had a few flareups but medication has helped me. I was put on Pentasta right after my diagnoses and have maintained it since then. I have seen a naturopath for treatment before and it's worked as well. In Feb I had my 3rd baby and since he was 3 weeks old I haven't been quite right. My family dr. prescribed Salofalk for me and I took that for a few weeks, but I ended up with strong symptoms of another big flare. For the last 2 weeks, things have NOT been good. I can't keep food in due to bad diarrea, my appetite for water is low so I know I'm not hydrated enough. I feel weak at times, my fingers a bit tingley at times. I have 3 young children to care for and my husband does have to continue to work so I can't ask him to stay with me all the time. I have been on Pretnizone for the last week and 2 days, but I have been getting worse on it (Specialist wants me on it for 8 weeks). I'm still taking it, but have since stopped my Pentasa. I do have a colonosopy booked for this Thursday, so hopefully I can get more answers from that soon. I've never had a flare this bad. I am being woken up at night due to this. I don't know what to eat. I need to continue to function as a wife and mother!! I am seriously considering a Specific Carbohydrate Diet (Elaine Gottschall). Anyone else tried that?? I just don't know at what point I should be checking myself into the hospital. I really don't want to be passing my kids, especially my 4 month old, onto family for longer than I have to!

Hello MammaB and welcome to the forum, I am sorry you are not feeling well at the moment :( Based on what many say you should hopefully be feeling the benifit of the pred any day now as it can really help with any inflammation going on inside. I would say if the pain is unbearable then head down to a&e so they can check for an obstruction.

I know a few here have tried or are on the SCD diet so do check out out diet and sups forum to get further info about this, one thing that seems to be the case is that you must not cheat whlst on this with what you eat.

Please keep us updated on how you are getting on.
