Who else loves it? It's gotten so cold out lately that I've been having a small amount of it in the afternoons every day this week. The good news is that it doesn't cause me any problems, so long as I make it with water and not milk. Anybody else been into hot chocolate lately? If so, how do you make it? Water or milk, with or without whipped cream, maybe a dash of cinnamon? Yum!

mmmmmm. hot chocolate.... good any way you have it I think. But I make mine with water and marshmallows (just a few) yummy!

LOVE it Love it Love it! Gonna make some now! I use Hersey unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extract, sugar and milk, heated to just before it starts to scald, then whisked. I'm naughty-I do whipped cream AND marshmallows.

Ohhhhh, yes. One of the saddest parts about the Crohn's last year was that I had to give up my hot chocolates. Now, sometimes I'll have two/day. I love hot cocoa made from scratch, "hot" hot chocolate (with hot pepper flakes), Rolo hot chocolate, Tim Hortons brand... you name it. Whipped cream, marshmallows (with boiling water poured over to make them melty), chocolate flakes, it's all delish.

ps: I'll drink it in the summer, too -- sometimes on ice.

I think it's best when half milk and half water. Just enough creaminess, without too much side effects.

I had a girlfriend that used to work at Dunkin' Donuts. She showed me this, but I think she was using more of a creamer or half & half. At home, I only have milk. I'm sure those coffee creamers w/flavors would be wonderful too! <3

Yum, so many good ideas! Sometimes I take just one of those really big marshmallows and put it in the cup if I'm out of little marshmallows. I love the ideas about chocolate flakes and coffee creamer and vanilla extract! I am so going to try all these ideas! :)

You can also add Starbucks syrups -- I think the caramel syrup ($10 for like a lifetime supply) is to die for in hot chocolate.

I have to say i've never tried it although it always smells so good. Never been a hot drink person and think chocolate ice cream is vile (so in a minority of 1 haha). And now of course I never try anything new in case it upsets me (to the point of I stick to brands rather than the general item ie birds eye fishcakes and no other, although even though 95% of real food upsets me now lol).

I love hot chocolate at the minute just before I got to bed bit makes me sound like an old lady but its lovely. I mix it with milk and water as well so its not to bad for the stomach. I might need to go and make one now I know theres some in the cupboard yum.

Abuela Hot Chocolate tablets are my favorite, makes me happy just thinking about it. Thought right now my evening hot drink is Spiced Chai with mini marshmallows.

I love hot chocolate. Whole Foods has a "traditional" hot chocolate that is to die for as far as I'm concerned. I like my hot chocolate made with milk and I generally don't want anything in it including marshmallows, spices or whipped cream. And if I can help it, I don't make it in the microwave. Give me a pot, and a whisk and I'm good to go!

I make my hot choc with water an a bit of coffee mate (instead of milk)
but it's waaaaay to hot now for me to be havin hot choc ATM

I usually tend to put in half a cup of milk and half a cup of water, as milk doesn't sit too right in my stomach. Still tastes great :)

Oh hot chocolate, yum! I'm not big on chocolate but I do love hot chocolate. Might have to make some tonight. That caramel syrup sounds amazing...

Just had a hot chocolate made with lactose free milk with a peppermint candy cane slowly melting into it...delicious!

On the weekend, someone had brought me a Hershey's chocolate mint candy cane and I'd used it in my hot chocolate---it was like a tootsie roll, spearmint and cocoa all in one! How bad could that be??

That's so funny, just yesterday I was at the store and I saw Hershey's chocolate mint candy canes, and that sounded really good so I bought them. I'm definitely going to try melting one of those candy canes into my hot chocolate, sounds divine! :)

Hey Cat-a-Tonic:

I hope it's as divine for you as it was for me. I was just sitting here thinking that I wish I had some more of those Hershey's chocolate mint candy canes!

Enjoy your hot chocolate!

I am very jealous about these candy canes of deliciousness.

Just had a hot chocolate made with 1/2 cocoa and 1/2 Presidents Choice (Superstore brand) The Decadent Hot Chocolate. I usually just do the water and kettle thing, but whenever I use cocoa, I slowly heat up soy milk on the stove and whisk in the cocoa / hot chocolate mix.

Drank it on the couch with fireplace "roaring" (gas fireplaces aren't all that impressive in terms of flame size). :)

*Smacks forehead*
Soymilk... geez, why didn't I think of that.
Thanks <3

having a starbucks soy hot chocolate right now.. mmmm so good! i also have that presidents choice hot chocolate , its really nice! i use lactose free milk in it :)

Kelly: I have a fake electric fireplace (it's a lightbulb that projects flame-like light onto a fake hearth) so I bet your gas fireplace does roar compared to mine! ;)

Jessica: I had a "duh" moment too, when I realized I've got almond milk in the fridge that would probably make a really yummy hot cocoa! I'm going to try that tomorrow morning, we're getting a big snowstorm here tomorrow and I love love love to drink hot chocolate while I watch the snow come down. :)

If anybody else is looking for the Hershey's chocolate mint candy canes, I found them at Target (do you guys in Canada have Target stores there?)

OMG! I have an espresso machine and milk doesnt bother me...I am going to make a big ol steamed hot chocolate with whipped! mmmmmm thanks for the idea!

Alas, we are without Tar-jay.

I love whipped milk! I mostly use it for tea "lattes," but it's fab in hot chocolate, you're right! I do not have an espresso machine, though (nice!!!) -- I just have a $3 wire milk frother (looks like a strange whisk). 30 seconds with the whisky thing and the soy milk is a rich foam.

Mint chocolate candy canes and hot cocoa here I come.. see what you did Cat! I blame YOU!

Ha ha, sorry Nica. ;) I have to buy another box (or two... or three) of those mint chocolate candy canes, as they're almost gone already! I had a few and my brother ate most of them. I didn't realize how many he had eaten until I found some candy cane wrappers on the couch, and then saw how few candy canes were left on my tree! Ha ha, I think I'll buy a box and hide them away from him.

Oh, back to the subject of hot chocolate - I was at Trader Joe's the other day, and they have a really yummy store brand of peppermint hot chocolate. It has little chocolate flakes already in the mix - yum! Even my hubby, who is not big on chocolate, agreed that it was super delicious. Trader Joe's is a chain grocery store, but I'm not sure if they're in all states/other countries.
