My doc said I have mild Crohn's and its nothing I can't handle. I have had some flare ups in the past but always thought they weere stomachs bugs or food poisoning. Then I started getting sick and throwing up every single monday for like 3 months and decided to see a specialist. He did scopes and a series of blood tests and decided that I had mild Crohn's. I have felt perfectly fine for the last two months but the doc put me on 4g if Pentasa a day. Ever since I started it I have felt out of energy, down on my luck, and just slightly depressed and unmotivated. I have this drug. Ist giving me joint pain as well. I'm willing to deal with this as I don't want my Crohn's to get it really bad but I have read that Pentasa can cause hair loss and that is giving me a panic attack. I'm a 18 year old guy and I don't wanna go bald just yet. I'm so scared to even take oentas anymore since I am afraid it could cause hair loss and even kidney problems.

Any advice? My doc told me I'd just have to be on it for the rest if my life and he assured me I would have ZERO side effects. I'm almost havibg a panic attack thinking about how this drug could cause hair loss and kidney problems.

Thanks.

I would say to call your dr. and have a serious talk about the side effects that you are experiencing. You may just need a medication change. Sometimes one drug will give a person side effects, while it will not give them to the next. I was horribly sick on Pentasa and know there are other options, even with "mild" Crohn's.

Every one is different but I was on Pentasa for 12 years with little to no side effects. I have had hair lose at times but related more to Crohn's and inflammation than medication. Good Luck.

Pentasa is a pretty mild drug with hardly any side effects. I was on it for a while and had no side effects and no hair loss.

I have mild Crohns diagnosed around 6 years ago and have been taking Pentasa ever since. I find it pretty effective apart from the odd flare up. I personally haven't had any negative side effects of the drug so far, but you should definitely consult your doctor about the side effects you have been experiencing.
