Hi there. I've just been diagnosed with Crohn's. I only noticed bloody watery movements during my colonoscopy prep. Since then that's all I've had. I've been eating nothing but white bread and honey since my colonoscopy (i don't know why exactly) ... Some chicken too. And a couple of potatoes. But anyway... It's been pretty bland...

I have been taking asacol twice a day since Thursday and have had no response. Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't been prescribed pregnazone yet.. But was told I might need a short course if the bleeding doesn't stop.

How important has pregnazone been to you?

Thanks

Chris

Hi! Drugs like Asacol (mesalasine) can take up to 4-6 weeks to take effect. I have recently restarted on these and it took a good couple of weeks before I noticed a difference.

If you are lucky it may be enough to get on top of your inflammation, but quite often it takes a stronger drug such as prednisolone to actually get you into remission and then the Asacol could help you to maintain that long term. I suspect that I am going to need to do that soon.

It is quite common to have an initial good response to mesalasine, but then symptoms can creep back and need extra treatment.

It is worth keeping a food and stool diary as changes can be quite gradual and difficult to remember when symptoms change.

Best of luck.
