How long does it take?

I've had a small bowel resection 3 weeks ago. About 16cm and a PC of my large bowel. I spent 10 days in hospital. The "normal" time should be 5 days, but unfortunately I had a few setbacks. My bowel went into "shock" and took about a week to wake up which meant my stomach kept on working. I started throwing up bile made by my stomach and had to get a tube inserted through my nose to my stomach to drain the extra fluid twice during my stay in hospital. My second last day my wound went open creating a 5cm deep hole in my stomach, some fluids were drained from the hole. Now 3 weeks after the surgery I have district nurses coming over every day to redo my dressing. Every time I need to go to the loo it feels like my whole intestine goes into spasm. How long does it take to feel normal? I've also start losing weight since the surgery, I've lost 5kg so far. Is that normal? Currently I'm only on pentasa and some pain killers, about a month before the op I was on prednisone and azathioprine.

I also lost about 20 pounds after my bowel resection. I felt like I couldn't eat much, I never even felt hungry, and I was going to the bathroom about 20+ times a day. It really seemed never-ending. It honestly took me about 6ish weeks to really start feeling better from the surgery.

I hope you start to feel better quickly!!

Hi manzyb thx for the feedback :) I was reading through the posts and read that getting the valve removed could cause chronic diarrhea.. could that be the reason for the weightloss? Before I had my surgery I found it very hard to lose weight which is pretty interesting considering I have crohns..the reason I had surgery is because I had alot of scarring that cause narrowing.. so I suffered from bloating and pain.. what's your thoughts? I wonder if ill be losing more weight after this surgery. Hmmm
