how long ?

I would like some info on how long people have been using adalimumab and how effective it's been in the time you've been using this med.

Ive had 3 good years with infliximab so hope for similar results with adalimumab.

Can anyone enlighten me..??

Hi,

Initial round of treatment I saw results within a 2/3 weeks. Stopped treatment after 6 weeks because of lack of funding. Nearly a year later re-started, but saw little improvement. Have been on weekly injections for ~4 months and still little improvement.

I have a perianal fistula that is proving very difficult to treat. It's been with me for 6 and a half years and I've clocked-up 10 EUAs so far. It may be that even with a combination of drugs and surgery this is just not fixable.

I hope Humira works well for you.

Mark

Sorry it never worked out for you mark.
I'am surprised about lack of funding that you mention...was this because treatment wasn't succesfull ?

I would imagine the medication will be funded aslong as it is of continues benefit to the patient.

No, as I said the treatment was going very well. The local PCT withdrew all funding for treatment with Humira and Infliximab from all of my Gerontologist's patients. The only way to get the funding re-instated was to be referred to a specialist centre in London. This actually turned out to be a good move as it then meant that both surgical and medical care was under the same roof and managed by a multi disciplinary team of Medics, Surgeons, Nurses and Radiographers.

Once again, funding was initially denied, but eventually granted after the intervention of a Prof. and my GP. I have a copy of a letter from the PCT where they deny ever withholding funds. I wanted to make more of this, but was advised not to as it could make thing "difficult" in the future and at least the funding had now been approved. Treatment in the UK is a postcode lottery, regardless of NICE guidelines!

Hi Rob and Mark,
My story is very similar to yours Mark, so I was a little disappointed to hear you say you have seen little benefit so far. I have 2 fistulas with setons (all started 6 years ago) though only started on Humira in July, so its been 3 and a half months for me with no improvement to the fistulas :( I don't experience as much pain in the belly as before, so it's helping in that regard.
Heres hoping we both see some improvement soon!

Hi Serena,

Stick with it, let's hope that the Humira works for you. There's quite a few on here that have seen a significant improvement once going to weekly shots. Perhaps that's something you should talk to your Doctor about in the coming months if you feel that you're not making progress?

I've seen improvement, but progress is very slow. Less pain and only one surgery this year compared four last year. I guess the one thing that we can never know how bad it would be if we were not taking the Humira?

Wishing you well.

Mark

Been on it for lets see.....9 months.
It started being effective for me about 1 month in. By 2 months in I was in full remission and have been ever since. Feels great, I love humira<3
