Hey everyone just a quick question.

I went to see my specialist today and explained after being off pred for 2 weeks, i'd be having symptons of a flare up for the past 4 weeks so his suggestion was to increase my asacol so now i'm on 12 asacol a day, and also sent me for a blood test to check b12 vitamin deficiency (if that is correct) as i have a really sore throat and sores around my mouth. I'm just wondering though, is this too much medication? I'm now going to be taking 12 asacol 400mg a day, 6 methotrexate 2.5mg once a week, and folic acid every day apart from the day I take my methotrexate which totals up to about 97 tablets a week!

Any opinions welcome

Hey Amanda,

If you are finding taking this many tablets too much to handle then you should deffo mention it to your Dr.
Our compliance with the medication that we are prescribed is what keeps the Crohns under control, and if taking that many tablets is too much for you, you could possible miss doses etc
FYI there is an 800mg tablet (Asacol MR 800mg) which might be more suitable for you. It's worth asking your dr if you can switch to it, on an NHS prescription it works out as the same price for the GP.

Hope this helps,
Soybean xx

When I took Asacol, it was 12 a day. I always thought that was the normal dose. Took that for about 6 years, then I was switched to Pentasa. I'm currently taking Pentasa and Methotrexate, 15 mg once a week.
