On humira for 9 months. Every injection has been followed by 3-4 days of flu-like exhaustion, body aches, nausea etc. Trying to find any way to prevent or combat these symptoms and would appreciate advice of others dealing with this side effect.

Sorry you're having a hard time with it. I don't react that way - my biggest reaction is that my legs feel tired and heavy for a few days after I inject.

I don't think flu like symptoms is a very common side effect of Humira. That is one I have never heard of with this drug. Story to hear you are having that issue.

I feel like this the day I take the injection, but not 3-4 days. Have you discussed this with your doctor?

I felt like that after my Remicade the first few times. Then I started to take Tylenol for three days after each treatment . Will your Dr give you something for nausea?

I get that way too for the rest of the day and then sometimes into the next day. This last time it lasted for three days tho.

I was going to suggest something for Nausea, but thats been covered. Can you time your injections where you dont have to work or have plans like on a weekend? I had some of those symptoms like tired all the time, no energy etc. but it is slowly going away as my body gets used to Humira. Has your Doctor done a blood test to see of you need vitamins? I take folic acid even when I wasn't on MTX. Not sure of that will help, keep us updated and good luck.

I too would be interested in hearing how people combat the flu-like symptoms (which seem to be common, at least from what I've read, as a side effect of Humira). I haven't had the nausea but the exhaustion and flu definitely hit after my first four loading doses - haven't had the next two yet though so I guess I'd better wait and see what happens after those. Fingers crossed the exhaustion/flu-ey stuff won't be as bad next time!

Yu to, my legs feel like they have weights on them.. Do yu notice yr self more tired since taking humira?

Sorry I missed this and am late answering - Sometimes I feel tired, but it doesn't seem to be a consistent effect. Sometimes I feel fine, except for the "heavy legs" syndrome. These last couple of weeks I've even had a lot of energy - more than I've had in years. Just took the baseboard heat cover off in one room and started cleaning it. I do not do things like that. :D

Hi all.

After six months or so on Humira I still need 10mg prednisone per day to avoid flares and have a reasonable life quality.

Is that success or failure? the blurb says Humira can reduce or eliminate dependency on pred. It has reduced but not eliminated it. I look much better than six months ago and have gained weight, have some nearly "normal" days, but I still get bad days and flares come if I stop or reduce the pred. Maybe once I have healed the inflammation in my small intestine I will be able to stop the pred.

Am I winning and don't realise it? Objectively?

Also I feel crap for a couple of days after the injection but small price to pay if working.

What was the best way to eliminate the nausea?

I had the exact same thing happen with Humira! I had surgery and then, instead of going in for 6wkly Remicade, the doc suggested I try Humira, which I could do at home (and apparently, my insurance company preferred it). However, I found that I would inject it and have to go to bed for 2 or 3 days! Exhausted, achy, nausea, and my emotions were out of control too, but that could just be due to feeling so crappy. I eventually made the choice with my doctor to discontinue the Humira and try Remicade again. I am doing pretty well, but we had to add Imuran to keep things in check. Remicade still makes me tired, but nothing like the reaction I had to Humira.
