I was diagnosed with vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) Stage III in 2006 when pregnant with my son. In the years since I have had to have so so many surgeries to remove the lesions, some of which have now grown internally as well. Its just a complete nightmare. I had surgery to remove the lesions recently and they didn't remove all of them because there was just so many.
The only explanation anyone can give me is that obviously I was exposed to HPV (as most of the population are at some point) and because I was pregnant and then on azathioprine afterwards, my body never got the opportunity to clear it the way most people do. Therefore I developed VIN, CIN and now VAIN.
My gyne seems to think that if I can spend 2 years without immunosupression I have a good chance of shifting the virus. Obviously my gastro thinks that is a TERRIBLE idea. Such a horrible catch 22, and depressing too - because to anyone uninformed it's just assumed to be warts or similar.
