Humira and tooth ache
This may seem odd but, shortly after switching from remicade to humira my teeth started to throb.I have two teeth aching bad.To the point where I have to get them pulled on Monday or ASAP.Now they are constantly aching. I can stand alot of pain EXCEPT teeth throbbing.I could never understand how a tooth can ache so much after a root canal.Root canal means that they remove the nerve right! Correct me if I am wrong.
Kev any ideas or your input. Anyone!!!!!!!

Thanks Tammy:confused2:

Hey Tammysue. no, wish I had some idea as to what's behind this. There is an old remedy (temporary at best) that involves holding an aspirin on the gum next to the tooth until it slowly, completely resolves. But too much saliva negates any positive effect... and aspirin can be really tricky for someone with IBD, especially if they're already taking 5ASA. you might want to try oragel or anbesol for teeth. My dad once had a toothache sooo bad, and he and mom were snowed in on the farm, miles from a doctor or a dentist. Anyway, it got so bad, dad went to the barn, got some battery acid out of the tractor battery, and dripped it into the tooth cavity that was bothering him. once it hit his mouth, the saliva caused a reaction with the acid, and the tooth exploded. It's a true story... gives folks some idea as to how bad a bad toothache can be..

One wild thought... is what if what you've got is an abcessed tooth. That might explain humira making it feel worse. You immune system may have been ok enuff to fight the infection of the abcess... then the humira knocked out your immune system, and the infection in the abcessed tooth went from bad to worse. Just a stupid wild assed guess, but it seems to make sense of this on face value. Think your only solution is to get to the dentist ASAP, like you said.

Sorry...

Hi Tammy. I have had similar pain for over a year. I have been on humira in the past, but I don't remember if this happened while I was on it or afterwards.

I have no idea what causes it or what will make it go away. When I first had it I went to my dentist and he said there was nothing wrong with my tooth, so I went to my doctor and he just shrugs his head.

I know what you mean about toothaches, they bother me too. The pain goes from the tooth and shoots down my neck and upper arm if it's really bad. The weird thing is that it isn't always the same tooth. It is always the back molar, but sometimes it is the one on the other side of my mouth.

The pain seems to be worse during a flare-up. I wish I could give you some advice on how to manage it, but I haven't found anything that helps. :(

Thanks guys for your quick responds.

Now today my teeth are fine. Not aching as of yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
