Hi I had to take two injections on Monday and. One of the injection site is very red swollen and sore, is this normal? I have contacted my gastrointestinal nurse but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm just a bit concerned as this is the first time it's happened. Any advice would be great thanks

I didn't have this issue when i was on it, but i think you were right to contact nurse. good luck with it settling and hope Humira works for you.

Thanks i didin't know if i was being over cautious, haven't heard back from the gastro nurse i'm sure !she's on holiday this week. Seeing the gastro specialist tomorrow so will see what he says. The site is so warm tonight it's like its on fire!

i take 1 pen every two weeks. sometimes it gets red, sometimes it doesnt.
but it was never on fire or swollen. just for your edification.

edificiation - dont know exactly what it means, or if i used it correctly lol. thatll be my word of the day! e d i f i c a t i o n :)

I had occassional issues with my humira injections at the beginning. I would break hives on an area of about the size of a golf ball around the site I injected. It was mostly happening on thighs, rarely on belly. It was doing that when the med was actually working. My theory is that your body is "reacting" to it, and reacting might means producing more antibodies to it, and that is not ideal to produce antibodies to Humira. My reasoning might be wrong but this is my theory as a patient. The reaction itself should not be too problematic if it resolves quickly enough (that's how my GI reacted when I mentionned it) as it seems to be fairly frequent but I think it worths considering the "why" its happenning.

My experience with Humira was not too good. Every time i injected with the pen my throat would swell up and i couldn't swallow. I also got a nasty cough as well. it hasn't gone to this day and i've been off of it for a year now.

but it can work miracles for some, so keep up with it, it could mean remission for you. Definitely mention the site to you gastro bloke

good luck

Hi,

I've never had this problem, but injection site reactions are listed as a common side effect. If it's not settled after a couple of days and you've still not heard from your specialist Nurse, I'd suggest showing it to your GP.
