Humira side effect or am I sick?

So after I had my 2nd dose of Humira, a few days later I felt like I was coming down with a cold because I had a stuffy nose. Then I came here and read that this is a side effect of the Humira. Well I had my 3rd dose on Tues night and now I *really* feel like I am getting sick. My nose is stuffed up and my throat is sore, coughing a bit. So is this all a side effect or have I actually caught a cold? And if it it IS a cold, are there any special precautions I should take being that my immune systems is suppressed?

Hi,

Simple answer is it could be either. I had a lot of this autumn through to spring, if it was a side effect it's not causing any problem now. Treat it as if it's a cold a see how you get on. For me, that means take it easy, drink plenty of fluids, take Paracetamol, use an inhaler of some sort to keep the passages open, suck throat sweets etc. Above all else, if you feels that you are getting really ill, get to a Doctor.

I caught 4 colds this past winter - more than I ever have before. So far so good for the spring, though... :) It very well could be a cold. Do you have a fever? Keep hydrated and get lots of rest. Call a doctor if you develop a fever. Now that you're on Humira, be sure to wash your hands regularly, especially after going anywhere in public!

It might be an allergic response to the Humira, but I'd expect it earlier than a few days. Given that you've had anaphylaxis with infliximab have you spoken to your GI?

Wow I didn't even think of it being an allergic reaction! My GI's nurse told me that if I was going to react to the Humira I would have reacted to my 1st dose because it is such a big dose. I did my injection late Tues night and started feeling like this on Thurs morning. I'm not having any trouble breathing, it just feels like the normal sore throat I get when I start a cold, but I plan on keeping an eye on it in case it gets worse. Also, one of my friends that I just spent some time with on Monday night started getting sick the same day I did with the same symptoms. So I am leaning towards me being sick rather than something to do with the Humira.

Thanks everyone!
