I had no problem with hydrocortisone suppositories, but am now using hydrocortisone enemas and am having a whole range of issues. Anybody else had a negative reaction to these?

The biggest issue I have is of burning and major cramps for about 20 minutes after using it...sometimes longer.

I've never used one but I'm sure someone will come along shortly with some sort of experience/info.

This site http://www.medicinenet.com/hydrocortisone_enema-rectal/article.htm says that pain/burning in the rectum are a side effect but to contact your doctor if you experience abdominal pain. Sorry that's the best I can do. Contact your doctor anyway on Monday and see what they say about it.

I had already read the warnings and possible side effects, but wanted to know if anyone else has had this or any other side effect. I find it strange that I seem to be having a reaction to it.

There are so many generic warnings and general information for every drug that you start to wonder if any of it actually applies to the drug you are taking!

Have your symptoms gotten any worse or stayed the same? Dr. would probably take you off of that and try something else if its only making things worse and/or not working. I'm surprised no one has at least come in to say that they've used them before but didn't have any issues. Sorry you haven't gotten a reply yet. Can't make the thread title anymore clear either. All I can suggest is to contact your doctor about it and post in the thread everyday to bump it up in hopes that someone will see it soon.

Edit: I'm seeing if I can get you some help but I still have to wait for responses.

Never used a hydrocortisone enema....but the steroid enema I had once burned a bit (hemorroids and skin tags were the issue there) and I had cramps from it, which the nurse said was normal.

Hope you get it straightened out!

I have taking hydrocortisone enemas and experienced burning and a lot of discomfort for about 5 minutes afterward. I really hated taking them, and to be honest, I am not too sure they even helped.

By enema, do you mean the foam? Or a retention enema? I've taken hyrdocortisone foam before and didn't have any negative side effects but like Jill I don't recall them helping much either. When my disease was less severe I had a lot of success with prednisolone foam eneams, maybe you could try these instead?
