I was just prescribed hydrocortisone after complaining to my GI that I feel so raw after all the diarrhea.

Has anyone else had any experience with this stuff? I'm afraid it may help but since the diarrhea isn't stopping isn't it kind of futile?

I haven't used that myself but I know many members swear by Calmoseptine cream. Here you have to get it behind the pharmacy counter.

Once when I was in college, the health services there actually gave me a diaper rash cream. I was surprised, but it did help. I don't know how often the hydrocortisone can be applies, but a barrier cream like calmoseptine, A&D, or desitin just needs to be reapplied each time you have a bowel movement. It helps protect the skin from the acidity of the diarrhea and makes it less painful when you wipe. It is like when you put vaseline on your nose when it is really runny from a cold.

I have used Calmoceptine but with 20 bouts of diarrhea I just can't keep reapplying. The cortisone cream is twice a day.

I use this but on my hands and feet. I get dermatitis. It worked well for me. It treats inflammation. I think it's actually a kind of steroid like prednisone, but far more mild and without the side effects.

However there's actually a warning on the box that says not to use it on the anal area - it says: "Do not use on the eyes, face, anal or genital areas, on broken or infected skin..." But maybe your doctor gave you a different or milder version if he's telling you you can use it there? Perhaps you might want to check what it says on yours.

I use E45 as a barrier cream, which works well for me.

My daughter used it for a while. also the diaper rash cream. they did not help. So what she does is to keep one of the containers that you use to water the plants, to wash herself after. She also uses Aloe vera. ( the plant with out the skin) that calms the redness and inflammation. Hope you feel better soon.

A few weeks ago I was so raw I was going crazy and my Dr. prescribed hydrocortisone
suppositories for me and they helped immensely.
