I've never heard of it before. After reading up on it I don't see how its a good method for diagnosing IBD or anything other than the three listed below (but there are other tests out there for those and sometimes the breath test can last up to 5 hours so I read in the link below).
"Hydrogen breath testing is used in the diagnosis of three conditions.
- The first is a condition in which dietary sugars are not digested normally. The most common sugar that is poorly digested is lactose, the sugar in milk.
- The second condition for which hydrogen breath testing is used is for diagnosing bacterial overgrowth of the small bowel, a condition in which larger-than-normal numbers of colonic bacteria are present in the small intestine.
- The third condition for which hydrogen breath testing is used is for diagnosing rapid passage of food through the small intestine.
I've already been diagnosed with CD and had a resection last year. I am still having RUQ pain, and they're trying to figure that out. I guess this is one of the tests I haven't had yet, lol.
