hysterectomy

about 3 months ago I posted about getting a hysterectomy to see if it helps with my flare ups. During my monthly cycle I would have flare ups that would last two to three weeks every month. So I went to a GYN to talk about a hysterectomy to see if it would help. Well I had it done on July 9th and I haven't had a flare up sense. Now I am not saying I am cured of Crohn's disease, I do have my every day mild pain, but nothing compared to those horriable 2 to 3 weeks of massive pain. I am also not saying this is what you all need to try. I just wanted to let you know that it helped me. I am glad I did it. I kept my overies so I wouldn't go into menopause. I also use to wake up in the morning feeling sick, that also has went away too. I just wanted to post an up date.

:)

Thanks for posting the update. I have the same issues, and have often wondered if anyone else was in the same boat.
My mom went totally off the wall when she had her hysterectomy, but she had her ovaries removed. I imagine it was the hormone imbalance that did it.
Anyway, thats good info to have for the future.

When I had my first resection, they removed my ovaries due to polycystic ovary syndrome. I wish someone had talked to me a little more about it because I didn't realize I was going to be a 24 y/o in menopuase.

On the other hand, I had a friend with crohn's many years before I was diagnosed and she complained of fissures after her hysterectomy. OUCH!

Hey Weaver - I have an IUD (Merena) on purpose for this exact reason. I don't get my periods anymore and it has greatly reduced my flares. I would flare about every 3rd period. Cruel to be a woman with Crohn's right? I guess some of us are just more susceptible to the inflammation your period can cause. So - just a curious question - you will still have your hormone cycle, just no period right?

Yes I still have a hormone cycle. I still get moody once a month lol and my breast swell up, But thats about it.

there was a chance of that happening and among other crazy things. I took that chance because I was suffering so bad 2 to 3 weeks a month. I was scared and it was really rough for a week or two after surgery. My GYN,GI did research and they talked to other professionals on my case. they decide to go a head and let me have the surgery. People thank I was crazy for doing it because of the risks and that I am only 29, but I felt a spent most of my time in bed in pain. I wanted to try anything that might help me take some of the suffering away.
