Ok here it goes..If you have read my story you know that I have a lengthy history. It seems whatever could go wrong did plus more, so I'm usually not surprised or shocked by a whole lot. For 1 week now I have been suffering from excessive (and I can't emphasize enough EXCESSIVE) gas. It's constant along with upper right quad pain, not severe pain just enough to be annoying. Ironically no "big D", no nothing just gas and extremely loud bowel sounds. In all the years I have had GI disorders this has never happened. Has anyone out there suffered from this??

Did you start taking the probiotics last week? It takes a while for the good bacteria to kill the bad bacteria and during that time you can sometimes see different side affects such as what you are seeing. After about two weeks the bacteria will calm down and you should feel a little better. If this is not the case I would call your GI. Good luck and I don't know if I welcomed you so welcome to the forums

Thanks Jeff for the welcome and the advice. I've been on probiotics for a very long time. I have been holding out praying for it to go away, but there's that little voice telling me that there's pain for a reason. Thanks again

Yeah I would defintely call your GI when you can. If the pain isn't too bad I would wait till Monday and try to get an appointment as soon as possible. I went four long years with a slight pain in my butt. A few months ago it got horrendously bad and I found out that I had a huge abscess in my butt. No wonder it hurt to go to the bathroom. I also had to spend a week in the hospital and have pain meds which I absolutely hate pain meds. I don't even take tylenol if I have the worst of headaches or pain or whatever. I wish you the best of luck

OMG 4 years. Having had several perirectal, anorectal and internal abcesses (all requiring surgery) I cannot even imagine how you waited so long. I can totally understand about pain meds though. I coded after a dilauded dose in July. That makes you never want anything stronger than a tylenol ever again!!LOL take care

Yep four years.

For pain meds to work on me I need such a high dose, same goes for knocking out medications. When I was first diagnosed I was put to sleep for a colonoscopy and I didn't fall asleep right away so they gave me more and more and more until I was out. I didn't wake up the usual forty minutes after and I wasn't awake an hour and a half after. They were getting worried so a nurse had to put her knuckle in my ribcage and twist. I was so out of it I didn't feel it and didn't even no I woke up. I woke up for real about four or five hours later and didn't really sleep the rest of the week do to other reasons, but yeah. I'm apparently a little immune to the stuff.

I always have really bad gas too. I'm a constipation style crohnie as well. The pain is probably associated with the gas. Either the gas is irritating the damaged parts of your intestine or it's just plain old fashioned gas pains. Make sure you're not getting a bowel obstruction and try simethicone (Gas X, etc). It does well for me. Not really in reducing the amount of gas, but in keeping it from forming the big bubbles that result in so much pain to go along with the gas.

I've had issues in a similar spot, with a lot of excessive gas, since december..in 9 days from now I'm going to see a GI about it (though i expect to leave empty handed, since its my 3rd time seeing this guy and both times he thought I was nuts/faking). But um, what's suspected is gallbladder. Guess I'm saying maybe you can consider that a possibility, too...
And I sure do know how you all feel about long-lasting pains, my IBD ones have b een around for 27 months now.

I am going to call my GI on Monday. I had my gallbladder removed in 2004. A bowel obstruction did cross my mind, only because of the major surgery I had in Nov. and I had a partial obstruction early February that resolved on it's own after an NG tube was placed to empty my stomach. Lisa-I would switch dr's if yours in any way implies that you are crazy or faking. No one should have to feel like that after seeing any doctor. Thanks Everyone..Dede

Yeah, with no changes to your diet, or increases or changes in amount or type of pro-biotics, AND with associated pain, it means a trip to the doc for a checkup. The extra pain could be the result of the extra gas... but seems like you need to find the cause of the extra gas. Pre or pro biotics can cause more gas, but so can any 'downturn' in your condition... extra fermentation from a yeast infection in there, or increase in the number of nasty bugs inside of you.

If absolutely nothing that goes into you has changed (food, drinks, meds, pills of any kind - even if it's just a 'brand' switch).. then something is going on, and you need to find out what it is..

I have had bloat and gas pains for the last few weeks, and doesnt matter what I eat, or avoid... Back on Cipro and Flagyl and 900billion probiotics... I have Salofalk but seems like I can't escape it.... seems like no matter what drug I try it works for a short period and back to pains... ugh!
