I have just had surgery for a perianal abcess just one of the nasty symptoms of this disease. Over the last 10 years my life has been one of flare ups and high dose prednisolone steroid..none of which have stopped the disease from spreading now completely in my colon. Am starting infliximab tomorrow after a short dose of mercaptopurine which i was allergic to. Really scared as i have read some pretty horrible things abount this drug but i feel i have no option now as so want to feel well again. This disease has taken over my life and i try to feel positive but life is hard when you feel so ill most of the time, the other thing is that most people dont understand how debilitating this disease is. Would be nice to be in contact with others who are going through a rough time and also some encouraging stories of living life with crohns.:sign0085:

Hi Carol Ann and welcome :) I'm so sorry to hear that you've been having a tough time of it :( You poor thing.

I pray that the Infliximab is the answer for you. Please keep us updated as to how you're doing and let us know if there's anything we can do for you.

*hugs*

:)Welcome to the forum! This website has helped me tremendously in dealing with this disease. Mine too has been very aggressive. I really would not worry so much about the side effects of Inflixibimab. For one reason, all drugs have side effects. For two, you will forget about the side effects of Infliximab when it starts to alleviate your symptoms. I was on it for 3 years, but had to get off of it due to abscesses from infected mesh. It really did the trick for a while, and there were times that I even forgot that I had Crohn's. I wish you well, and hope Infliximab puts this nightmare of a disease in check for you.

Hi guys thank you for your replies and good wishes. Finally had my first infusion actually was not as bad as I thought it would be. Nice cosy recliner chairs, magazines, TV and a great nurse who did half hour tea and coffee run with biscuits! Was feeling very tired yesterday and this morning but am feeling more positive this evening. Next infusion in 2 weeks time hope will feel much better very soon. Good wishes to you all Carole Ann
