I've been nagging at my Gatros secretary to move my appointment forward be cause of the symptoms I have recently been having, she say that there aren't any at an earlier date :( I don't want to go to A&E as I don't think I should, I have spoken to my IBD nurse and she just said to keep an eye on whats going on and to ring her if it gets any worse

I'm on Aza and have been for a year now and I haven't experinced these symptoms until 1 month ago, the sypmtoms are: my temperature just randomly rises at any point, feeling really sick to the point where sometimes I actually throw up, feeling extremelly tired to the point where I just fall asleep at any point, feeling dizzy, really sore joints, pain-but i get pain most of the time anyway and when my temperature rises my breathing goes weird  :ybatty: :confused2: All of this has been getting in the way of my work, but I still work even with all of this going on and it's really hard :(

So do I carry on ringing them or is there anything I can do for now until my appointment with my gastro in April?? :confused2:

Any advice would be great :)

Since you say you're able to still work, Accident and Emergency is probably unnecessary, unless your symptoms suddenly worsen. The wait until April is a pretty standard NHS waiting time for a non-urgent appointment. I would contact your IBD nurse or GP and ask for some pain-relief, anti-nausea meds, etc. to try while you're waiting. They could also check your temperature and advise you if you need to see the gastroenterologist sooner than April.

I am still able to work but I can't put as much into my work because the symptoms are getting in the way, I still do everything but not as well :( I agree that going to A&E is unecessary, the only symptoms that are worsening is the fever and dizziness :yfaint:. I have tried anti-nausea meds but weirdly enough they make my nausea worse . I think I'm just gling to ring my IBD nurse or my gastro secretary again just to see what the plan is.

My IBD nurse said to me "with those symptoms I should see my gastro sooner" but the only problem is they haven't been able to fit me in, my gastro secretary did say that she would ring if they do have a sooner appointment

Hey, sorry you're feeling ill :(
I work in the NHS in the UK, but am also a Crohnie... In my experience, a & e is pretty useless, unless you get to a really bad state!!
I would recommend either seeing your GP- go armed with your consultants direct dial number and tell the GP you need to be seen... They'll likely phone thru for you straight away.
Alternatively, PALS have been good with me in the past... They're really understanding and can push for appointments for you!!
Let us know how you get on... Try and get plenty of rest over the weekend!!

I sometimes go to my gp if I want to see someone quick. They could give you something for the sickness in the short term and may be take some bloods to see if you are in any immediate danger with the pills you are taking.

Hope you feel better soon.
Xxx

My other problem at the moment is work because of what I do and where I work it's quite hard to fit in any appointment :( also everytime I have a blood test done it never really show up anything only the last time was when it showed something (I can't remember what it was-I think something to do with my liver I don't know), yeah I still work but thats only because I can't take time off due to staff and my boss having to find someone to step in until I can get back to work, so I have been working whilst having all of this going on :(

I am trying to rest as much as I can but the thing that is stopping me from doing so is when I randomly start getting a high fever along with pain, dizzines and feeling like I'm going to vomit and then pass out.
I think when I next get the chance I will ring my IBD nurse to see what she says.

Hey

Sorry your having a rough time of it, I suffered with really bad dizziness and nausea whilst on aza, within a few days of quitting the meds the symptoms were gone however I'm now flaring again. Is it possible you could speak to your nurse and suggest stopping aza for a couple of weeks and see how you feel then.

I know it's hard for you to work with these symptoms. I didn't mean to dismiss that in my earlier post, just to point out that Accident & Emergency departments only deal with real emergencies - if you're not unconscious or screaming in agony they're unlikely to be helpful and you might find yourself with a long wait to be seen only to be told to follow up with your doctor. They may provide painkillers or anti-nausea meds, but you could just as well get them from a GP. A GP could check your temperature, blood pressure and everything else too. Do you have low blood-pressure? This could cause the dizzy/faint/sick feelings.

What kind of pain do you have? I'm guessing you've probably tried meds like Paracetamol, Ibuprofen and Codeine? These can all be bought over-the-counter without you needing to see a doctor. You may want to avoid Ibuprofen as it can irritate the stomach. Paracetamol is not much use as a painkiller (at least I've never found it to be) but it can bring your temperature down. You can also buy Codeine combined with Paracetamol yourself without seeing a doctor. I find codeine to be a very effective painkiller, though you will become tolerant to it and it won't so well if you take it for longer than a few days.

Would it be easier to fit a phone appointment around your work? Many GP surgeries will do phone appointment and you can just ask them to call your mobile. Of course they won't be able to run any tests that way, but you can ask them to chase up your appointment with the consultant and ask if they can prescribe anything for the pain and nausea.

I don't have low blood pressure well as far as I know I don't, I don't take Ibuprofen, as for paracetamol well that doesn't even touch the pain, Codeine I need to get some more of, I have been taking co-codamol which is better than paracetamol but still isn't great :(. I will be ringing my doctor/GP on Monday or atleast my IBD nurse anyway as my GP surgery doesn't always answer :ybatty:. I kind of get this weird aching, sharp stabbing pain mixed together it's really not nice .
