Ive been having symptoms for about a year and initially thought it was a stomach flu until recently.
I basically get bouts of really painful , urgent diarrhea that can last for about a month or so and it can be about seven times a day and a few at night too.
In between im alright but my stools have reared dark pebble like bits in? I ready something about diverticula.
Ive had blood before but not a lot and had a few mucous occasions too.
I recently went to a gastro specialist and he said he thinks it's just irritable bowel syndrome but I'm getting a camera up my butt just to make sure and give reassurance.
I'm onky sixteen so I'm embarrassed.... Is ther smething that shows the difference symptom wise between ibs and IBD?

Please don't be embarrassed.Every thing is done with utmost discretion and thought for your dignity. The staff have seen it all before, many, many times. It's good to have your problem investigated, then they can treat it accordingly.Best wishes.

I assume you are getting a colonoscopy? That will help show a difference between IBS and IBD. Did the GI doc run any blood tests for inflammation markers? Don't feel embarrassed, there are a lot of people who are going through exactly what your are. Even children and pre-teens under 16. There is a teens only subforum which may be helpful.

yea i've had blood tests done. I just wasn't covinced when he said it's ibs because i've had really painful back ache for three months too and it's not stress related diarrheah as far as i can tel. I just feel a little awkward because i don't NEED to have the camera , it was my choice but he offered.
I also have been tasting blood then there's been blood in my salivia a few times recently but i didn't mention it . I just think it could be something other than ibs maybe

I would suggest also having a fecal calprotectin checked as it can give an indication if there is any inflammation causing your issues.

Make a list of ALL your symptoms,ie: frequency, quantity etc.and take it to your nexy GI appt. that way you won't forget anything that may be significant. My GI doesn't mind and nor should yours. Also make a separate list of questions you want to ask,so that you can refer to it during the appt.

I wasn't completely honest with him and don't mention a ton of symptoms because I was embarrassed and nervous :(
Like he asked me about my stools in between the diarrheah and I said normal when they aren't because it hurts and it's hard to push out and stuff and there's other symptoms too :/ i have a flexible something camera appointment so hopefully that'll tell me if there's any inflammation.

The colonoscopy sounds a lot worse than it actually is so don't worry about it too much, I recently had 1 & being a Rugby playing mans man & was not looking forward to it.........the worse part for me was the prep drink as i found it didn't taste very nice
