IBS or IBD?

I have colonoscopy Wed. Cat scan did not show Crohn's but she said it might not. I have been eating lots of fiber for years thinking I had IBS and in the past year or two my pain got worse. I lost 100 pounds since July 2014 from not eating much due to pain and loss of appetite. I had just cut out many foods due to IC and was paying more attention to how food makes me feel. Then someone with similar symptoms mentioned they had Crohn's, and my primary agreed it sounded likely, so they sent me to this GI.

But in the meantime I switched to a low residue diet and it is helping so much! It has been about a month or so, with some cheats and some pain. Yesterday sort of as an experiment I ate 6 baby carrots. Oh wow did I pay with terrible pain and diarrhea which had chewed up carrot in it maybe? Like silt? No blood. Pain in lower right abdomen - my right. I had been noticing a problem with corn and whole wheat but I thought it was corn and wheat but did not think of fiber. Nuts are killing me but I had been eating them regularly. Mostly I was doing sort of Paleo before to make sure I got nutrients in, lots of fish and fresh veg and fruit. But pain has been awful! Until low residue with the exception of the experiments. Does this make it seem more like IBD? And if I treat it with diet will it make the inflammation go down to where I don't get diagnosis?

Thanks for your help.

Don't have any solid answers but I have Crohn's and can't do some of the foods you mention like wheat or corn. Wish you the best.

Trying high fibre did make things more painful for me, and when I went low fibre the symptoms were better. It won't stop the inflammation, but maybe eases the symptoms. It all sounds very similar to where I was 18 months ago and you certainly shouldn't be getting weight loss like that from just IBS.

Good luck with the scope.
