So done with Gi #2 apparently DS is like most Ibd kids and has crohn+ Ibs
Tricky part is figuring out his Ibs triggers.
We have a tens machine to helP with pain.
Some possible new meds to try.
But if we can figure out his trigger food stress etc then things can be a lot better.
Gi agrees DS needs Remicade for the Ibd eim since they are not under cOntrol.
No one is sure of what is in his small intestine but since we are on Remicade a mute point.
So if your child has Ibd and Ibs how did you figure out their triggers?
I think we may try milk free for a few weeks to see how that helps.
Keep a food diary.
On phone so will update more later .

I'd highly recommend an online food diary called My Fitness Pal. You can also get the app on your smartphone if you have one. We tracked our son's food intake for three weeks using this program and it was so easy, intuitive, and helpful. You can print reports to take to your doctor if you need to. You can also track how your son feels after each meal and then print a report. You'll have to do the analyzing yourself, but it's nice to have all the data there.

My son doesn't do well with dairy. We've just casually noticed that when he has a glass of milk or ice cream, he doesn't feel great later... so he goes light on those products.

Many IBD people feel better going gluten free too. It can be challenging, particularly for kids, but it's worth a try.

Good luck...

We too have been given the IBD + IBS diagnosis. At times I really wonder if the IBS diagnosis is legitimate. We have had some success lately with reducing the abdominal pain (hasn't had any abdominal pain for 1.5 weeks!!!) and we've done 2 things that may have contributed to this.

1. We cut out red meat completely. My son seems to do ok with ground beef but give him a steak and it is bad news, so I figured if we cut out all red meat for a while it might help.

2. I started giving him a herbal remedy called Iberogast 3 times a day. It has been recommended to us by our GI and there are some decent double blind studies conducted on it showing that it is significantly more effective than the placebo. One problem with it is it tastes TERRIBLE!

At the moment I am blaming abdominal pain on IBS but the icky achy gross almost feverish feeling that he gets I think is due to Crohn's. Of course I have nothing concrete to base this on... :ymad:

Did you make your offerning to the IBD Gods? Quick turn around 7 times, spit, throw salt over your shoulder!!!

I blame everything on Crohns...Crohns pisses me off and deserves it!

It's ok I have performed the appropriate sacrifices... don't tell the neighbors where all the crows have gone...:ylol2:

There is a ibs diet used Australia called Fodmap it has had some studies done which are showing improvement in ibs patient symptoms.

We tried the diet just Sarah dx, my ibs got better and Sarah contined getting worse.

On this diet you cut all onion, wheat (traces ok ), rye, limit lactose, excess fructose (no apple or pear).

I read fast and thought you said cows at first I was scared for your life around here...but crows are o.k..even our farmer friends won't mind.

Seriously though...I was updated our doc once a week at the beginning...every time I had a good report O would take a down turn..it got to the point where he said if good don't report only bad cuz you are jinxing us. All those years of med school and the guy is superstitious:lol2:

found it.
Has alot of studies- so hopefully between that and the TENS + remicade we have our bases covered.

OFfical 2nd GI update-
DS is complicated.:ylol:

His crohn's did spread to the rectum per the re-read on the biopsies ( I could have told them that) and his TI was still chronically inflamed although mildly.
No doubt in their minds he has crohn's so I am not going away no matter how many crows are missing:lol2:
Gi agreed his crohn's right now is mild in terms of GI symptoms BUT EIM are not so Remicade it is.
Blood does not reflect his disease activity so we have to have fecal calprotectin at least every six months also monitor thyroid, folate, b12, and vitamin D.
We have behavior therapy for pain and help dealing with crohn's.
we have a tens which has reduced his pain a lot
and we may find the food trigger since some of the abdominal pain may be IBS related.
THey gave us other abdominal pain meds to try but we are waiting to see if remicade /diet help first.
All of the recommendations went back to our first GI(who is willing to follow them) so for now we will stay put at least until the next crisis:hallo3:
no point driving if the plan is not going to change.

As far as pill cam-
GI #2 said it would have been nice prior to the remicade but now it really does not matter it may become an issue of the remicade does not work in the future ( not going to go there.)

SO there you have it.
Not sure how much of the IBS I buy but since we got no other ideas..... I have to go with it for now.:yfaint:

MLP, I'm glad you have a plan to work with and that your local GI can monitor. As you said, there's no point in the driving if all is going well and only monitoring is necessary! :)

I really hope this works for him and his EIMs can finally disappear (I'm sure the crows are relieved as well! :D)

Good luck!!! :ghug:

I know I'm late to the party but thanks for the update mlp. I hope the new action plan hits the nail on the head hun...

I agree with Catherine that the FODMAP diet would be worth a go. Goodluck!
