My doctor's office just called and said my symptoms sound like IBS. Is it possible to have Crohn's and IBS?

Yes! I've seen a lot of people say they have IBS symptoms on these forums when they are not flaring from their Crohn's/UC. Still, I don't like the IBS diagnosis, even if you are well known to have Crohn's and in remission.

No as you are diagnosed with CD I believe? Are you in remission at the moment? There are people who have IBS symptoms when their disease has quietened down, but those symptoms are not the same as the IBD symptoms, but can be quite similar. Keep a watch on your symptoms, and if they get worse, I think you will probably need to go and see your GI and see if there has been any progression of your CD.

Yes, I am currently in remission. I have had some black stools and some people say it could be blood. Thanks for your responses.

Sounds to me you may be flaring if you have black stools. I think you may require a GI appointment and hopefully get some more tests on insights to how your CD is doing. Good luck!

I agree with Kelleh, black stools/bleeding aren't part of IBS but could be a flare. I'd say definitely get it checked out.

For what it's worth, my GI has also tried to blame my issues on "IBS" when I was supposedly in remission. I don't feel like that's the case, though. When IBD goes into remission, that doesn't mean it's completely gone. It's like the monster is sleeping, but the monster hasn't left. There can be things like scar tissue that are still causing issues even if the inflammation isn't active. Or, it could be an active flare that they just haven't confirmed yet. It seems lazy to me to blame it on IBS, though, especially when you've already got a confirmed IBD.

My blood work and calprotectin come back fine too, and I know Cat's do. Also seen a lot around recently there has been clear lab works, so maybe ask for a colonoscopy/endoscope, depending where your CD is. Just mention your symptoms to your GI. He/she should know what to do. [emoji4]
