I've finally got my big CT scan today of my small bowel. I'm looking forward to getting in there and getting some answers. I am not looking forward to drinking two liters of "apple smoothie." Why do they even bother trying to give it a friendly name like "smoothie?" I worked in a smoothie shop all through high school. This chalky, milky contrast fluid is no smoothie, my friends. They're not fooling anyone. My choices were apple, berry, and vanilla. I decided to go with apple because it seems to be the most benign flavor to my palette.

Whenever I have these tests I'm conflicted with two sets of emotions:
1) I'm thinking to myself- please find something! Please get in there and see what I know has to be there. I had to run away from the lunch table on Saturday with my sister and brother-in-law and my boyfriend all embarrassingly exchanging glances. I was only a few bites into a slice of pizza when it hit me. So please don't let me get on that table and have my doctor tell me that "everything looks great."

2)Please let everything be okay. I don't want scary surgery or any more serious medication. Let me be okay.

On a side note, one of the coolest experiences that I've had with this forum is reading current, active posts from people asking questions about their colonoscopy prep while I was also drinking my prep... at the exact same time! Now, that is awesome! Disgustingly awesome!

With you on the flavour thing . . . . My contrast apparently naturally tasted like vanilla, but they insisted on mixing it with squash, flavour choices were orange, lemon or blackberry . . . none of which shout 'oooh I taste great with vanilla'!
Also with you on the mixed emotions, I had an MRI 2 weeks ago and I felt just the same. I got the former option, everything is ok. In away, thats cool, I kinda like my insides, but on the other hand, I know theres something wrong, but the docs have no idea what it is yet. More tests ahead :(
Hope it works out well for you :)

When I had my CT scan, they didn't give me a choice of flavors. They mixed the contrast in with 3 big glasses of lemonade. It was actually not terrible. It tasted like slightly thick, chemical-y lemonade.

Jessupann, good luck with your scan today and I hope you get some answers! Enjoy drinking your "smoothie". ;)

I agree that stuff tastes horrible! But it helped them find something in my small bowel that I knew was there & the docs insisted was not! Nanner, nanner, nanner you white coated villains! Just kidding!
Good luck with your tests and I hope you get the answers you want.
Michele

I'm waiting for an appointment for a CT scan and didn't even know you had to drink a prep for one of them! Would be lost without this forum!
I hope they don't mix it with squash cos I hate the stuff. Hope I can get it down: I'm a bit funny with certain textures i.e slimy puddings and thick drinks like smoothies.
Eeee, how embarassing if you threw it up. But I guess they've seen it all...
