So next Saturday I'm having my reversal, and really quite scared about it all. I realise it's nothing like the ileostomy operation and is deemed as quite minor surgery.
What worries me is afterwards. How long does it take you to get back to normal - my bowels were alright, and it was only occasional food that used to have me running to the loo - I got the bag due to a massive entercutaneous fistula. I've been doing research on the web which has made me fill with even more dread, the whole thing of your bowels regulating sounds horrible..I was told by the nurse it may be a couple of weeks until it all gets back to normal, but what I've read so far, completely contradicts that..
I'm meant to be going back to Uni an exact month after having this done, is this possible or am I being far too keen, and should get myself ready for not being well enough?

My reversal is next Friday - so looks like we might be enjoying the ride together.
Kela80 recently had the surgery and has been very informative about his experience - which was very positive.

I'm in 2 minds about mine. I'm excited but nervous. However, they've already cancelled my reversal twice - once for a cancer patient and the other because the surgeons were away on leave - and so have kinda pushed me up to a month before I go back to Uni to start an MA so I'm just getting jittery and wondering what to expect and whether I should go ahead with it. But I think if I don't.. I'll just be putting off something major that will need to be done.. and I can - although I hate to think about it - put my MA off for another year. Really I don't have a choice, I'm just starting to think I might do because I'm scared about the op and afterwards.

(I realise I must sound like a complete nutter ha)
 
Hah - I'm similar (not doing my masters though!)
More along the lines of the trepidation.
I've taken four weeks off work to recover - I hope that's enough.
But I have access to seven weeks if I need it.
I'm scared my fissure will come back and it will all be a disaster.
But I'm trying to think positively.
You've had two false starts already - that would have been very tough.
 
Hi guys, hope both of your reversals go well. From what I've read and heard, wth no complications, 4 weeks should be enough time to back to uni and it's not very phyisical.

But what I wanna know is, how was life with a bag? Food wise, weight wise, uni life and social life? Thanks
 
Honestly, I hated it to begin with but other the last few months of it, I've actually grown quite fond of it. Food wise I am still careful, I won't go out of my way to eat things that may upset it and I still peel tomatoes and things, but apparently loads of people who have life long ones eat whatever they want and have no problems. Weight wise, I gained at least a stone because it's put me into remission! WAHAY! Currently not at Uni yet, took a year out for the op and due to being really unwell last September, but it hasn't hindered me in going out and having a social life. I go to the gym - just have to be careful with weights, and I go out clubbing with friends. Without it, I had no quality of life, with it, I do. Check out comfizz, they do awesome underwear stuff!!
 
Gracifer it is so good to hear you say you have even grown fond of your bag. I remember when you first got it how hard you found it to deal with emotionally. I think you thought we were all mad saying you would get used to it! Good on you!
Re the reversal. 4 weeks should be plenty barring anything unforseen like infection etc. Recovery depends on how the reversal is done. My last reversal they had to open me up right down the middle again but I still recovered more quickly than the original stoma op. I think most people they rejoin you through the stoma hole so its even easier. But be prepared for the other. I think recovery is easier because there is less handling of the intestine, particularly if you had a resection at the same time. They will keep you in hospital until your bowels are working properly - that just depends on the person - for me it was only a day or two then they slowly progress your diet until you are eating normally.

Thanks gracifer, I'm hoping to put on more than a stone me. I need it. I'm also gonn a try and eat as much as I want although just temporary bag.
 
Haha Anna yeah I think I did at the time, but I have got so used to it that I'm debating putting of surgery for another year till I get my education out the way - I never thought I would say that! I can cope with it now, and am even competent to change my bags by myself!! Perhaps the two cancelled ops were actually blessings in disguise?
I think there going through the stoma hole, but then like you say they can probably change their minds at the last minute. They've warned me that I will probably have an infection and that I there is an increased risk of my bowel blocking again as it did it the first time round.

I had mine done 8 months ago. A lot of sites I read said the final takedown was a piece of cake.. I don't agree but would I do it again?? Yes! I instantly had control of my bowels but still had my diapers on just incase and never had an accident. The gas pains hurt so bad at the hospital I wasn't sure exactly how to let that out but once I got home laid in my bed and had a good nights rest the next day I laid there and I had positioned myself and let out lots of gas I felt so relieved and extremely exited. I called everyone and told them I farted something I dreamed of doing for the last two yrs prior.I do undertsant the butt burn:) remember to pat not rub. Its nice to have flushible wet ones. I think you ladies will do great. Congrat
 
Maria's takedown involved a J-pouch and no colon, so Gracifer, your direct reversal with colon intact will most likely not include butt burn and some of the other (sometimes) difficulties that can occur with J-pouches. Good luck to you, Gracifer!!!

Yes true. I had my colon removed. So yours should be awesome :) congrats and excited for both of you two.

It's gone great Gracifer.
There's a reasonable amount of pain at the actual Stoma site - but pain management is ok.
I went in around 10am - back in the ward by 1pm.
Spent the afternoon dozing.
Fluids so far.
Spewed my protein drink up - but felt better for it.
Feeling pretty good!!!!
Haven't pooped yet though ......

Glad to hear that it's gone alright -there's still time - I guess it's only been a few hours, your bowels will be working in no time! Thank you!! Please keep me updated!
 
I haven't managed to keep down the protein drinks - I've vomited them up both times.
But it's a very sudden vomit - it's taken me by surprise both times.
My bowels had a very long snooze when the Stoma was originally formed - so I suspect they maybe taking an opportunistic nap again!
The wound site looks pretty gruesome.
It's just a big pool of pool - no idea what lies beneath.
Definitely not excited about the removal of the plastic thingy covering it.
I think it will be a little owie.

Can't wait to hear how you go.

I've got wind pain tonight.
And I did my first poop - but it was just blood :(
I'm on solid food tomorrow - which I'm a bit excited about.
 
Oh - the nurse took a pic of the wound for me - but I can't work out how to upload it.
If I work out how - I will post it so you can have a gander at it.
 
Hey. Sorry for not coming on here whilst in hospital, had my phone upgraded before I went in, which meant by the time I came out of my op, I couldn't remember ANY passwords or anything. Nightmare.
Anyway, apparently the op was slightly more complicated then they thought it would be. Everything had stuck together - adhesions - so they had to unstick it. *sigh* Had alot of pain in the first 24 hours which moved onto non - stop vomiting..had to have the NG tube for a day which I pulled out in my sleep (don't ask)
I was allowed home yesterday as my bowels opened on Wednesday - like Niagara falls tmi I realise - and they weren't too concerned after my bowels opened.. so happy days :) feel so much more human now that I am eating..
 
Me too. It really really sucked when it didn't. I thought i'd gone back in time by 8 months. At least though it wasn't 2 weeks non-stop vomiting! I guess on the plus side (if any) I've lost half a stone - bring on the food haha.
 
Hows the bum Samboi? Mine's just been sudocremed up for the 4th time today. Got to the point where it's SO painful. Thankfully though my wound seems to be OK. woop :)

The wound is healing brilliantly.
My bum is really suffering though.
I'm taking a stool softener which has worked well.
I have been rotating rectogesic, calmoseptine and yesterday introduced paw paw ointment.
I kick off every morning with a sitz bath.
I'm hoping it will settle over the next week or so.
Oh - and I also have a bidet toilet seat - so that washes and dries me without the need for toilet paper. I love my bidet!
Bottom line though - right now - my arse is killing me!! :)

Did you get your hot dog from the village fair?
 
Good news Gracifer, though sorry you had a few rough days.
I ate a hot dog with my stoma the other day with no problems. How did yours go down?
 
I'm having my stitches out today :eek: really stupidly scared haha.
Yesterday my parents took me to a county fair which pretty much exhausted me, slept for 12 hours afterwards. The scariest part was that I didn't poo once, so I started really freaking out, and then this morning I did my first solid kind of poo, which seemed to open the gates for the not so solid stuff to come flooding out haha.
That sounds like bliss Samboi - not the arse killing part but the baths and bidet. Still too scared about the wound getting wet to have a bath. *sigh* i haven't had a bath in ages. I miss baths. :(
Still haven't touched a hot dog. Literally the hardest thing ever.. decided to be practical haha.
 
Oh wow.
My stitches are dissolvers. I just have a big patch thing covering it all. The nurse said it will just slowly peel off. It's got a big dried blood patch in the middle - so it ain't gunna be pretty.

I'm impressed you did a solid poop. I'm hoping I don't graduate to those for ages as the softies are already a struggle at the moment.

I did the grocery shopping this morning. Then had to rest the remainder of the day!
I forgot how exhausting surgery is.

I think I was too much of an over eager beaver when it came too pooing and spoke too soon. Back to soft :( oh well.
Yeah I know what you mean, I keep fighting against the tiredness and then at about 5 I just give in and go for a nap.
Stitches out! Woop woop! Not going to lie, slightly painful but that was mostly due to the scab having scabbed over it. Very envious that yours are dissolvers!!

I did my first semi normal poop for nearly two years this morning.
I was very excited.
It was followed by total diarrhea. Lol.
But I was pleased with my small progression.
I've also almost totally returned to regular diet of meat and lotsa veggies.
All good so far.
Yippee!

I'm so impressed your stitches are out.
I'm too scared to look beneath my blood stained dressing!
 
I'm all good.
I'm actually wondering if I should remove the blood stained dressing.
The nurse said it would just peel off in a week or so.
It's been over a week and it shows no signs of peeling!!
How is it going with your recovery?

I'm taking one more week off work. I want to give my intestines time to work properly.
They're going ok - but another week of rest can't do any harm.
And there's no bidet at the office!! Lol
 
Oo-er I wouldn't know, but that sounds quite scary haha. Don't you have to go and get it checked by a nurse at the local GP surgery or something, otherwise I'd never have taken it off ha.
Went in for a check up today and it seems to be healing nicely and they don't want to see me anymore which is always a relief ha and told me to air the wound a bit every day if I'm not going anywhere..

Yeah I think that's fair enough...perhaps they do mobile bidets, so you could take it around with you ha? I went out the other day for lunch and a bit of shopping with some mates, and got caught short so had to dive into a restaurant and use my Can't Wait Crohn's card...slightly embarrassing so another week can't really do any harm. I've got 2 weeks till I start Uni and hoping everything will have 'regulated' by then..
 
Hows it going Samboi? I'm still friends with my bathroom.. kinda getting really fed up of diarrhea now ha.
 
Mine has become kinda regular. Diarrhea still - but regular.
I'm taking a stool softener though - slowly weaning off it.
It is preceded by painful wind - but at least it's all working ok.
I think I'm doing ok!
Wound looks pretty good too.
I'm hoping everything will be settled by next week when I'm back at work.
It has all gone really well and I'm pretty happy with it all.

How's yours going?
 
It would seem that since I've felt so good I've MASSIVELY over done it. Yesterday I went out all day with a friend and it involved a lot of walking, but we did have quite a few long sit downs. This morning wake up to have a tiredness headache, feeling bloated and nauseous and so tired. But I think it's been working towards it as last week I was like something on heat. Damn. Although Mum worried me by saying it could be an infection but surely there would be over more prominent signs right?
Wound looks good. Purple but good. Yeah I can pretty much work out when I will have the good old D. It is regular now..

That is so funny. I did exactly the same thing today!
I went for a two hour walk by the river then stopped in at the shops.
By the time I got home - I had to go to bed and have a nap and I haven't got up since!
I always forget post surgery to pace myself!
Lucky I have nothing planned for tomorrow.
Hilarious that you did the same thing!

I've also stopped the stool softener.
Getting more regular with less pain.
No fissure!
 
FINALLY feel back to normal after a serious rough few days! How strange we both did the same thing! How are you feeling? Are they more solid now? Because mine don't seem to be.. YAY to no fissure! :)
 
I think I was driven by the delusion of betterness!!! lol
All rested up now though.
My poops are still strange.
But some look semi-regular - which I am rather impressed by!
I don't get much warning though.
 
Yay to them being semi regular. I really need some help my arse is so so sore as yesterday my insides seem to literally explode haha and I don't have anything other then sudocreme and was just wondering if there is anything else, say, in your experience that I could use?
Also, just wondering are you eating normally? Because I'm beginning to get concerned that my bowels aren't 'regulating' themselves to normal poos yet because I'm eating normal food.
 
I'm eating normally. It's going ok I think.
Having said that - I had my first accident this morning.
It was a sneaky wet fart with mucus/colitis like discharge.
Thinking I might tackle it with a few butt facials.
All other output has been relatively firm.

For sore bum -
I have a bidet - so it cleans my bum and soothes it.
If it gets sore though - I'd be using baby wipes - not paper.
Also rectogesic to get the healing happening. Calmoseptine to soothe.

I go in for a reversal on Wednesday (9/11)!!!!!!
Have had a stoma for 4 years now and have been really comfortable with it. Doc's have said all looks well and I should give it a go, but was a big call to make as I have been so well for the last couple of years.
Love hearing your funny stories. I can remember when I was poorly and had the first op (Crohns related abscess) there was a poor chap in the bed next to me just farting his heart out for what seemed like hours in a ward full of patients and visitors. Really felt for him. Did you guys go through this??
Just want to get it over with now. Please keep in touch and swap stories.

I've actually really enjoyed having a reversal buddy to compare notes with.
At the moment - I am doing some decibel shattering farts.
Having been deprived of a good fart for about 18 months - I'm rather reveling in them.
Still don't trust 'em though!

I find myself running to the loo in case it's a fart or something even more sneaky but man do they let rip when I'm on the loo... haha.
Still finding I have diarrhea and at times it's still quite bad. Hoping it will start to get better as were heading to the 3 week mark that my bowels opened because man is my arse sore. Definitely using baby wipes as I think otherwise my arse would be sorer ha.
 
Will let you know how things are in a day or two.
I was once old that keeping your wet wipes in the fridge and then wiping your sore arse is a great comfort!!! (But not in the kitchen aye??)

A cream for nappy rash called Metanium is great for sore bums too.

How's it all going?
I was back at work this week.
All went well - but I think I'm about to start flaring - which is a bit of a worry.
I'm feeling very fatigued - not sure if its flare or being back at work.
Was planning to go out tomorrow - but think it might be a bed day instead.
 
How are you feeling today Samboi? did the bed day help? Hopefully its just going back to work and not a flare up. I still find I get fatigued 10 months later. Don't think I can blame it on the op anymore.
Gracifer hows your poor old bottom going?

Loiseileen, how did your op go? I'm hoping you are merrily farting away by now.......silent and not deadly.

I pushed through and went out for the day.
It wasn't comfortable - but I got through it.
I was flaring - but I'm attacking it with butt facials again and feel better for it.
It was a really good reminder about how quickly things can turn from great to not great.
I have to remind myself it's only been four weeks and it takes time to get better.

I am still reveling in my farts.
Never has something so simple brought me so much joy.
 
Morning All,
Got home yesterday evening after 5 days in hospital. My immediate thought is "WHAT HAVE I DONE"!!!!
Op went really well. Docs were very happy, it's just I have forgotten what its like to spend your days on the loo! Started farting on Friday and was just laughing to myself, but now my bowels are moving again its not much fun. I must be going to the loo every hour and its just a short, sharp burst of water really No blood yet just browny cabbage. Am on small amounts of food like porridge, yogurts, jelly and thin bread.
Does this sound familiar to you guys???
I'm sure it will get easier, I wasn't expecting to run before I could walk. I'm so lucky to have an understanding wife!
What pain relief where you on when you left? I left with Tramadol, but hate hate taking it. Also on an anti sickness tablet to help with nausea and keep bowel moving.
OK end of moan. How are you guys? Hows the bum burn?
 
Hehe. Very familiar.
I had one day where I just sat on the loo - uncertain if it was a fart or poop (liquid poop at that stage).
Had another day where the wind pain made me feel green.
Only pain relief I took at home was Panadol.

My routine has changed too.
Now if I fart - it means a poop is on the way to the exit.
And the farts are sudden build ups of explosive energy.

Oh - and I ate corn last night for the first time in two years.
It was juicy salty buttery golden beauty.
 
Glad you got your reversal :) wishing you all the best take it easy still and take care. Sounds like everything is going well with you. I got mine made permanent 4 months ago and still in pain :(
 
Sorry been a bit AWOL, started uni on Sunday..
That sounds very familiar. Even now a month later I am still suffering from d and trying to stick to a bland diet for the time being. Hard when everyone around you is drinking etc. Plus I get so tired so quickly... back to the naps haha. I stopped taking pain relief whilst in hospital (which was 5 days) and didn't take any anti sickness stuff home.
The bum burn depends on what type of D it is and how often I go.
Part of me wonders whether I did the right thing having the op just before coming to uni as I could drink and eat pretty much whatever with it, but it would have been harder hiding it... so I reckon I did the right thing, just recovery sucks.
 
Hello I am due a ileostomy reversal next month and wondered after the takedown, is the wound sutured or left open?? I have been researching and most say the wound is left open?? Is this right?

Mine was all stitched up in a somewhat straight line.
All I have now is a little thick scab in the middle with an undissolved stitch poking out of it.

I think I'm eating too much fibre.
My poops are kind of explosive, followed by rock solid, then a little loose.
I've actually forgotten what my pre-surgery regular poops were like.
But I think they were pretty solid and relatively quick.
Pooping now is a 15-30 min production that happens in a few spurts of activity.
I'm reading a lot!
But I am delighted with my progress.
 
When I had my first stoma reversed it was stitched up in a straight line too but then the wound opened up so it needed packing for weeks. I was opened up down the middle for the op so I had that wound too but it didn't need packing.

Good luck Willow for your op. My stoma wound has been left open and is being re-dressed and packed everyday by a visiting district nurse. I have about 25 staples down the centre of my tummy which will be removed next week sometime.

Do you guys take Loperimide to slow down your bowels? I used to take loads when I had my stoma. I have spoken to my hospital and they have said at this early stage just one tablet a day and see how it goes and I don't want to be bunging myself up too much.
I had my first decent nights sleep last night for about 2 weeks. Feel a lot better.
 
Thankyou for your comments, it is brilliant that you all know exactly where I'm coming from and I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared, because of last time I was very ill when my bowels perforated but I know this is not the case this time as Im well, but I am still a little scared......
I must say I am excited about being able to fart and poop again as its been so long does that sound silly lol
 
OMG Willow - I am loving farting.
It's like a beautiful trumpet proudly announcing long live the king!
Pooping again is pretty awesome too.
And just to reassure you - the reversal is a breeze in comparison to the stoma formation.
It's painful and uncomfortable when everything starts working again - but nothing like the birthing pains of a stoma.
 
Hiya Everyone. Well I know its only been 8 days since my reversal but all is going really well. Such a change in just the last few days.
Im only pooing about 5 times a day and can now trust a fart. Feel loads better. I think it helps that the drugs and the amnestic are out of my system!
 
Today I have quite strong pain just above the surgical scar.
It is extremely painful when standing or sitting.
Less painful when laying down.
Any suggestions what this might be?
I have been eating like a machine and have put on a few extra kilos.
I have also been picking up my cat Max and he weighs about 6 kilos.

I'm thinking it might be a strain - so I'm resting with a hot water bottle on it.
Is this a disaster??
 
Sam be very careful about lifting anything, even a cat for a few weeks. Your body is super fragile and in shock now and you don't want to jiggle things and strain or worse create a hernia.

After my first surgery a few years back, I picked up a baby and I was in excruciating pain. I never thought a tiny baby would be an issue. My discharge says nothing more than 10 pounds but I think that's too much too. Yesterday I barely had the energy to hold a bag with two water bottles and a snack.

I'm on school holidays - so I can literally stay in bed resting the next two weeks.
Although I sense you're going to say longer than two weeks!!
 
It was longer but in fairness I also lifted grocery bags which hurt me. I think you just need to take it very easy for the next few weeks and hopefully it will just pass.
 
Thanks NGNG. Looks like I'll be doing a reasonable amount of bed rest over my holidays.
The heat pack overnight has really helped.
But I will be taking it very easy.

Currently my poos go between solid and d. I decided to go out last night with the others - drank a bit too - (I don't know why I did it, but I was like I'm at Uni again WOOO) I'm waiting for my body to hit back. I know it will. Just I know it will probably happen on the train when I'm going home tonight, when I least expect it. I'm really sorry body for my brains stupidity...

I just hate being the only one who is like; I'm so exhausted from the op or I can't drink because I had an operation like a month and a week ago (!) I'm young. I'm meant to be carefree, instead I am constantly worrying about whether this or that food is OK and won't upset my bowels. I know this is a stupid complaint really and is probably because I'm tired, but last night I watched as a guy drank his way through about 20 beers, and was so pissed he actually ATE playing cards, swallowed them and everything. I wouldn't do it, but heck I would be in hospital if I did something as stupid as that!!!

Sorry. Rant over. I could still have the bag and that wouldn't be great being at Uni etc, so I am very grateful, just sometimes...
 
Good old fashioned hot water bottle has improved my situation.
Still hurts though - but nowhere near as bad as last night.
My fissure has also made yet another re-appearance.
It's had more comebacks than a superannuated 80's pop star.
So far it's pretty easy to get back under control.

And yeh - it's a weird mix of regular and D.
Although I'm pretty sure I'm having a mild flare as there is definitely blood.
And mucus.
It'll all come good though.

Hope you make it through your train trip!
And the guy seriously ate playing cards?
Reason enough not to drink!
 
Poo Samboi! I thought you were on the road to recovery. Your bottom is far more recalcitrant than mine! I'm hoping the strain has now improved? Are you sure its not related to the mucus and blood in your D? I mean I've developed bottom disease now my TI is under control - dare I say you've developed TI disease now? I'm hoping its all unconnected but keep it in mind if you continue to have problems. Promise?

Gracifer, so happy to hear you've been out on the town. And I really really hope you made it home before your body protested. Yes it is stupid but heck you're only young once, thats what UNI is all about, FUN (and learning). The important thing is to live your life as normally as possible and don't worry toooo much about the consequences - just keep it in balance. Enjoy!

I'm kinda hoping its all still settling.
The fissure comes and goes on a fortnightly basis - but I'm a-ok with it. It's nothing like it was when I had to get the stoma.
The poops vary. Butt facials are really helping settle everything.
The scar has settled again and the strain also seems to have settled.
I think perhaps I am just impatient for a full recovery and forget it takes months.
I am also naughty and do too much when I am feeling better instead of acting with a degree of moderation.
My wounds are so often self inflicted!
 
Interesting twist of fate - one of my cats, Max, has been diagnosed with severe IBD.
He has been put on 10mg of Pred!
It's the same as human Pred - so I'm also using all my old stock I have leftover from the bad days.
Interestingly - the first change they had me make was to his diet.
My poor little baby boy.

This week he has had an xray, MRI, gastroscope, fecal and blood tests.
He has had more exhaustive investigations than a human would have!
I'm waiting to hear if he had lymphoma from one of the tests.
But so far - diagnosis from the cat specialist is that he has severe IBD (presents as vomiting, weight loss and poor coat).
Treatment - change of diet and Pred. Review in two weeks - if he has not improved, he starts an immune suppressor.
No such thing as cat biologics yet. :)
 
Woah your poor cat didn't know this I hope it works. How can they do a colostomy/ileostomy on a cat? Hope it doesn't happen just curious :( how you feeling yourself?
 
A couple of people on this forum have dogs with IBD. It's very interesting.. My sympathies to you and your sweet kitty!

(notice I did not say pussy...that would sound naughty! hahaha!)
 
Lol thanks for that what happens if inflammation gets too bad? Thoughts are with you and your cat keep us updated. How are you doing?
 
If the inflammation gets too bad I would have to consider having him put down.
But we should be able to get him sorted.
He's just under 3 years old - so he's still young - which gives him a good prognosis.
I'm confident he'll be ok.

As for me - I seem to be two steps forward, one step back.
Which I'm ok with - as long as I stay that one step ahead.
But generally speaking - I'm in pretty good shape.
 
It's a terrible feeling since they are part of the family. When my dog had an enormous cancerous tumor popping out of her neck, we knew she had a matter of weeks. The poor thing was just suffering so much and it would be selfish to let her suffer. We had her put to sleep. This was years ago but I still love and miss her.

A cat stoma would not be fun because a pouch mean you empty it non stop and I don't think a cat would take kindly to that and the other option is trails of poop all over the house. Poor kitty I hope they can control the disease.
 
Oh my, I had no idea animals could get IBD too! How weird!! I just thought it was narrowed down to us humans. Wow. I guess you learn something new everyday!
How is Max now?
 
He has stabilized since his vet visits.
He started Pred on Thu - so I'm hoping he'll be feeling a little better from today onward.
He hasn't vomited since his vet visits - but he hasn't put on any weight either. I'm hoping it's all positive from this point forward.

Aw not good but glad he has a good prognosis :) hope he's ok soon. That wouldn't be good having trails of poo everywhere lol. Is he any better? Steroids working?
 
His IBD presents as vomiting - so he poops ok - which is a relief.
The steroids seem to be working great.
He takes 10mg of Pred every day - it's the same as human Pred - so he's getting my leftovers.
He hasn't vomited for a week now - which the longest since he was a kitten.
I'm convinced he's putting on weight - but it's hard to tell.
His tummy and sides are shaved - so he looks super skinny.
He's started attacking my couch with his claws again - so I'm treating this as a positive sign.
 
Follow up with my surgeon tomorrow.
Exciting!!
Hopefully that will pretty much wrap the whole debacle that has been the last two years.
And hope it never happens again.
 
Yes - I'm so sorry to read that you're still suffering.
I live in fear of that operation.
I hope you feel better soon and that you're no longer in pain.
That persistent pain is very hard to manage.
 
It's awful it really is tbh i didn't expect this much pain when I signed up for it :(:( it's worse than ileostomy surgery :( thanks just hope it goes away soon... :(
 
Wow I am amazed that Max also has IBD. Makes you wonder if there isn't an infectious side of it although none of our human friends catch it so probably not.
Poor Max, I can totally understand how he feels. I often feel like clawing the couch when I'm on high doses of steroids. I'm amazed the couch is the only thing he is clawing. 10mg must be a lot for a little cat considering their size. But Glad to hear he is going well. And you too Samboi!
