My girl Rowan (4) has an ileostomy. Recently was hospitalized for gastroenteritis. They got everything working again. Introduced food with a higher dose of imodium and now her bowels are completely not moving and she is back with the same symptoms as she had with the first diagnosis of gastroenteritis, high fevers, vomiting, but now instead of pouring our poo she is completely stopped. They did flush the stoma today after 26 hours of no output. It did not get the bowels moving and was all liquid. Before the flushing was having bad intestinal cramping to the point of getting a low dose of morphine. (We don't like to give that bc it slows the bowels worse but her pain was that severe in the beginning of this episode.) She also has had a sunken proximal stoma (loop). It popped back out and was working until the food and imodium. Then retracted back again. Since the flush she is sleeping relax for the first time in 36 hours.
The basically treated her for stomach flu. Was about to release her and all symptoms came back including, stoma retraction, fevers, vomiting, pain, cramping. The exceptions are now no output vs high output and the imodium being introduced.
Need advice and do you think imodium can just stop the small intestines dead in it's tracks?
They have tested her for UTI, ran cultures, parasites, full blood work up everything is coming back good.
