illeitis crohn's

hi everyone, just have a question about that.. i was looking on the paper the doctor gave me and is showed in the diagnosed section that i have illeitis.. what exactly is that? i have been googling it and still not really understanding it.. is this serious where i have to worry? am i gonna be really ill sometime in the future? im freaking out right now

Illeitis just means inflammation in the ileum (which is the end of the small intestine). The cause of the inflammation is your Crohn's. Nothing to worry about (and nothing you didn't already know I hope!).

A long time ago, Crohn's in general was called ileitis. I guess that area is so common in what we now call Crohn's. My mother was diagnosed in the late 60's and as a kid I always heard she had ileitis.

thanks so much for the information. is this a type of crohn's that is easy to treat? is illeitis easy to go into remission ? and if they were talking about surgery, where exactly would they be cutting? and last but not least what medication is used for this type of crohn's or that doesnt matter?

Yep, thats what they said I had too...before the formal CD diagnosis. When Im flaring I have severe pain in my right lower quadrant (RLQ) along with other symptoms which is around the area where your illium is internally. Dont freak out and just take the news with a breath of fresh air....so that way if you ever are really ill, you know where to start. For many people disease is in remission, controlled and you learn to deal with the things it throws you. This forum is a wonderful resource, the amount of information on this site alone can answer most of your questions. People are really nice here and can relate to the things your going through.

thanks blm,

im trying not to stress out about this, but its sooo hard.. im sitting here thinking i know my own is mild but when will it get worst? what will i do if all this stuff starts happening.. i know im not really dealing with this well, and i dont have the excuse that im young, im just struggling to find everything i need to know about this so i can face it.. im struggling to keep my head above water dealing with my husband being in iraq and im here alone with a baby.. man im freaking out even typing this and thinking about it

I don't think there's a difference in how easy it is to treat, and treatment is the same really no matter where your Crohn's is, since it's the same oroblem in a different location. Symptoms tend to be different depending on where the disease is. You may find that (like me) you don't suffer with urgent diarrhoea the way some of the colitis (inflamed colon) patients do. But on the downside, greater chance of strictures and blockages (since the ileum is narrower than the colon already).

But that doesn't mean it's inevitable that your Crohn's will get worse, and it's not inevitable to need surgery. So I know it's hard, but try not to worry about what *might* happen, and enjoy today, enjotly your baby because they grow up so fast! (none of my own, but I have 3 gorgeous nieces)

I have a 25 cm inflamed area in my terminal ileum(I assume similar to what you have). If your Crohn's is severe they will most likely put you onto something called Prednisone. It works very well and very fast. You will start to feel better within two to three days. It does have a few undesirable effects that you can Google if you are worried. There are also some other long term medications they may want to put you on and I can guarantee you that if you Google them you can find out all you need to know. Or you can ask on this awsome message board. I agree with BLM. There are a lot of people on here going through the exact same things as you and I'm sure that they would love to offer you support or answer any questions you may have.
I think my biggest piece of advice is that if you are in a lot of pain or something just doesn't feel right please go to your doctor or Emergency Room. Don't suffer with it like I did for a long time like I did. And remember we are all here to help. :)

SPCWife23 - It's not the end of the world. Enjoy that baby of yours.

I noticed that you are on sulfasalazine? I am too. How is it working for you? I am taking 3 pills 3 times a day and still having a lot of "D" and cramping. I am really disappointed and am going to talk to my doc about what to try next.

I hope things are going better for you. :hang:

Hi everyone, I won't be able to stay on long.. Soon as I get home which I'm trying to do now, I'll wrote more.. But I'm doing great, not depress anymore, and haven't talk to doctor yet.. But y'all are right I'm not stressing it.. Take one day at a time... For Now I'm still stuck at friends house till I can get my car out

I have Crohn's of the ileum (illeitis). According to what I've read this is the most common type of Crohn's. Mine was incidentally found during a colonoscopy about 2 years ago. I'm on Pentasa, which works well for me. I've been on prednisone once for a two-week burst, which wasn't too bad. A flare for me generally means cramping, nausea, and diarrhea that generally lasts for about a week, decreasing each day. I can ALWAYS pinpoint the cause of a flare to something I ate like lettuce or fibery things.

You'll soon learn what triggers you. The tricky thing about Crohn's is how different it is for each of us. It's a path we each have to navigate to learn about our own version of this disease.

hi everyone, thank you for all the advice i have been getting.. i was stuck at a friends house and wasnt able to see doctor yesterday so hopefully i will be able to see him soon.. snow is heading our way again but im not sure how bad it will be this time.. i am still on the sulfasalizine.. and im not sure if he wanted me to stop using it or keep on.. so until he says what to do or atleast call and tell me what to do till i can see him in the office, ill continue using it.. my tummy still feels kinda bloated sometimes but that happens because i was stressing out.. but now im relax and my minds off my health and on trying to deal with the snow that fell and the ones thats coming this week again.. anyways thanks sooo much guys
