I've been on imuran/azathioprine since January and we were starting to wonder if it was making any difference at all. I'm on a liquid diet (have been for 3 weeks) so that seems to have controlled the pain so if I've got no pain how do I tell if the azathioprine is working?

Before I couldn't see any signs that it was working, but I have been craving salt a lot lately, and found at that its caused by the aza so surely its working if im craving salt? Also if im craving salt, should I give my body what it wants or not have it because its bad for you?

Thanks xx

After 10 years, the only thing I can say is, it's working because I am in deep remission. That doesn't mean I ACTUALLY know that it is working, going into remission might have nothing to do with taking aza... ;-).

Unfortunately you'll end up only knowing after a year or longer or so if aza really helps you to manage your Crohn long-term. If you have flares every few months or having constant inflammation, then it's definitely not working and you need to look for alternatives.
