Remicade actually works to treat the underlying disease, not just the symptoms of the disease. If your constipation is due to Crohn's or UC and the Remicade is effective in treating your illness, then you should hopefully get some relief from it :D

Thank you, now if there was a place to seek answers for us constipated crohnies that would be wonderful. Having ibd is isolating enough but when you're symptoms aren't as common within the disease it's twice as bad.

Yes if your constipation is due to inflammation making it hard to pass stool. It will help with that. I am in complete remission and I i get true constipation sometimes, because i dont drink enough water, or somedays I dont get enough fiber. When I was flaring it was because I was so inflammed I was almost obstructed. That is a different constipation altogether.

Remicade healed my fistulas in 4 days, and put me in 100% remission. Its my miracle.

Hell I wish I had that problem.

I'm been spewing liquids for the last 3 weeks. I'm so irritated that I wake up at night with the hole burning. Man...

Its actually quite painful this way too, because you feel like going to the bathroom all the time, but you cant get relief because not much comes out. You still have to wipe often, and you still get a sore butt, but none of the relief from getting it all out of your system.

Hi! So happy that I found this thread. I have recently been put on remicade to reduce the inflammation that is causing constipation. Only 2 treatments so far--has anyone with similar issue had any success?

Glad superbloop put the question out there...I also have horrible constipation due to crohn's. Illeocecal valve is VERY inflamed! I am also going to start Remi soon...just got my blood tests done and waiting for it to be delivered. I am very nervous about the drug as I have read alot of horror stories. It helps to know that it has been so helpful for others!

I have been taking Miralax powder, once a day, for about a year. You don't build a tolerance to it and it seems to work for me. It just softens your bowels to help you go, it doesn't hit you hard where you are running to the bathroom. I would suggest trying that. Give it 12 hours to work and take it every morning or evening.

I was a constipated chronnie!! and yes Remicade made the constipation issue go away about 90%. I also have IBS so sometimes I still end up a little backed up.

I was taking stool softeners and had to stop them after about the 3rd infusion as they were "helping" too much and I swung to the D side for a while.

i just want to say i like reading that this drug helps. This was suggested by my GI , either this or humira. So i am trying to read as much as possible to see which would be better for me.

I am terrified of either but it helps hearing that it is working.

@Lydia i am very happy to hear it healed your fistulas, as that is the reason for these drugs choices for me.
