Imuran put me in the hospital for three days with Pancreatitis. One very awful experience for the Docs and Nurses and I. I was told it is kinda rare for that to happen. Anyone else had issues like this? I am now on Humira. Seems to be working with the only side effect being acne.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I had a good run with Imuran for many years but I did have some hairy moments over the years esp when I was first dx. was only a child but I was attending an adult hospital so it was trial and sometimes error, I lost the use of my legs with one set of meds, they were unsure if it was meds or a complication of crohns, was very frightening for all at the time but when med were stopped all returned in time.
I hope you have a good result with Humira and get back on your feet real soon.

How long were you on it before developing that? I just started it last week and haven't noticed anything different (good or bad) yet.

Pancreatitis can happen as much as 10% of people with crohns that take it. You will know it when it happens as its extremely painful.

I started 6MP on Wednesday. Shudder. I admit I'm scared.

GI didnt even order blood work to be done! I knew I had to have it from listening to all of you good people! So the GI nurse is ordering it for every two weeks, etc for me.

Hey Misty,

Just a heads up mate. Get onto your doc, you really should be starting out on weekly blood tests for at least a month.

I read things like this and it makes me more and more skeptical about taking this stuff -_-

I was on Imuron for just over 2 months and my liver f results were graphing very high.
Thankfully I am not on Imuron anymore.
Thanks..

Imuran can work really well for some people. It put me in remission a few years ago, and I think its working for me again. I have tapered to 12.5 mg prednisone and still havent had any breakthrough symptoms. I have 1-2 fully formed BMs a day with no blood or mucus or pain. I have now been on imuran for about 10 weeks, so its about the time it would be kicking in.

My hair is not falling out, I get the occasional mild headache, and I have no other side effects.

I think for alot of people it is a very effective drug. There are so many who have had great results with it. Fingers crossed for all of us first timers.

Sorry this happened! For the rest of you in this post, MOST people do very well on this drug (froman actual side effects perspective). It has been on the market since the 1960's. I have been on it for 10 months now and it has worked for me. It has kept me out of the hospital :). Only really annoying side effect was yeast infections which are now under control. Also had hair loss first 3 months and now that is also stopped. It is normal to feel slightly nauseous/blah at first. I found taking it at night helped early on and now it doesn't matter when I take it. Good luck!

This happened to me after 3 days of taking Imuran. Very painful and not eating for days was killer! But I'm also in the small percentage of people who has primary sclerosing cholangitis, so taking something that caused pancreatitis was extra painful. has you doctor ordered any mri's or cat scans to check out your liver?

I tolerated it well for six months. Then, I started having itchy skin. I mean REALLY itchy skin, so bad I would create welts on my legs. On my next liver panel, I was off the charts. Needless to say, I'm off it now and just on Humira. Since this just happened a week ago, I can report the itchy skin is much relieved. I go back in for a liver panel next week. So, if you develop itchy skin this can be a sign of liver toxicity. Be careful and get your blood work done.

Everyone is different, so no doubt there will be different reactions (if any) for each individual. Weekly blood work and close monitoring is all that's needed. And Yay for keeping you out of the hospital Erika! :)

xx

I get my first blood test on Friday morning. So far I've not had ANY issues with 6mp. (pretty much the same the drug as Aza)

But my liver was dodgy before starting. So fingers crossed. I cant tell if it's effective because I'm still on pred at 15mg a day anyway. Only time will tell.
