Hello all ! A little history first . I'm 37 yrs old and was diagnosed with chrones at age 21 and had a bowel ressection at that time .

I have not been on insurance (no treatment ) since then . Now I have gone downhill and cannot even keep a job . I flare up get better flare up on a 3day cycle sometimes it takes longer to clear .

But anyways finally got insurance and am in the hospital now . My colonscope shows a strictured ilium and some other damage that can be treated with medicine . They could not get the scope through the ilium .

The surgeon just told me that everything looks good I'm doing good and they are sending me home . WTF how is that , I can achieve my current state at home I came here to get fixd (surgery) I want my normal life back , what to do?

Hi,
Sorry you are so frustrated. Quite understandable. What medication are they putting you on? Hopefully a biologic.
I think you know that surgery is a last resort and doesn't cure the problem. I hope the surgeon is right (it's not often you find a conservative one)! I guess they believe there is inflammation that is at least part of the stricturing, and so it can be treated medically. That would be the best option if available. Are you eating?
Take it easy if you can.
All the best.

Turns out there was some mis communication . I just got consulted with my doctor and whats going on is they started me yesterday on presinone temporarly then here shortly they are gonna start me on Remicade .

As for eating , I could only eat small amounts not enough to maintain my health. And as of this morning I'm on NPO (nothing by mouth) for 3 days ,.....bummer . But its for the best my intestines will enjoy the rest I just have to fight with the cravings . Thank You for the reply !:thumleft:

King, they hate to resect until they have to, because they know that even if they cut it out, the Crohn's is coming back somewhere else, so a conservative approach is best. Mine ilium too, when I got diagnosed in 1986 they told me that 80% of the patients who have it in that area need a resection within 10 years. I made it without one till 2004. I had stays in the hospital where they would not feed me either, but it did settle it down with the help of the meds, all in all, I wouldn't go back and change the way we did it!

Here, have some prednisone. Oh, but don't eat anything. That sounds cruel! I'm just kidding. Prednisone makes me famished, but not usually in the first three days.

King, you are going to be feeling better quickly now that you are getting meds. You will feel like a new man. The medicines may help you avoid a surgery. You really want to try that out first if you can.

Not only do you only have so much intestine, surgeries can lead to adhesions, and those can be incredibly painful without much to do about them other than more surgery, which will lead to more adhesions.

I hope the Remicade works quickly for you and that you feel much better than you have in a long time. Here's to eating and feeling strong again. Good luck to you, King.
