Hi everyone

So I have just been to see the consultant for biopsy results and they have come back as indeterminate.. I have mixed inflammatory cells, aphthous ulcers in bowel and mouth , mild thickening of small bowel and horrible symptoms. I’m so frustrated, has anyone else had an indeterminate result?
He’s given me a 8 week course of steroids to if it improves.
Any advice?

"Indeterminate" is common in IBD especially in the early going before the doc has all the information. At that point it usually doesn't matter that much because the therapy is largely the same regardless of which it is.

As the disease develops and more testing is completed moist cases of Indeterminate end up eventually getting called either Crohn's or UC. In your particular case I'd say that the small bowel thickening suggests that you might end up getting diagnosed with Crohn's, since UC is confined to the large bowel. If the aphthous ulcers were seen in the small bowel then it is very likely Crohn's, but the final call is, of course, up to your doctor.

Thank you for you reply

It was just so deflating to here when I’ve been having symptoms for almost a year! I’m just so exhausted with it all 😔
But, hopefully these steroids will do the trick! I’ve then got to repeat my stool test and possibly colonoscopy.
What other test are there?

Colonoscopy is the big one. And the histology of the tissue specimens taken during colonoscopy can also provide valuable information. If you still don't have a firm diagnosis at that point the doc may also want to try things like capsule camera endoscopy to get a better look at the small bowel.

It is possible they might perform a CT of the small bowel. My Crohns was confirmed by one.
