Hi All

Advice please! My 15 year old has been very well for several months now with high attendance at school energy etc. He has managed this by combining Fortisip shakes and a low fat diet and going on to shakes only on tougher days. Then a few weeks ago around exam time his bowel movement sbecame looser eventually being very liquid and sudden. Diarrhoea is not a symptom really for him except when he gets a bit stressed things are looser. There has been no diet change in 9 months no recent antibiotics ( Dec and only 3 days). He has currently got a bad cough, cold etc ( first in 3 years) ans the cough medicine hasn't helped things.

We are in with the consultant and I know this isn't a flare but having been googling( always fatal) the idea of C diff has entered my head.

Anyone got any ideas why things would have changed like this ? I know he has a lot on school wise which no doubt is causing underlying stress. And we know stress can trigger phases of feeling unwell. But they do pass. clearly he is fed up discussing this with me!

Is there a bad smell to the stool, as in worse than normal???

I'm in the same boat as you. Trying to figure which it is for Grace is making me sick.

HUGS

Is he on any maintence meds???

DS had issues recently so gi ordered blood work with stool option including c diff .

Good luck

Thanks for your replies. We are heading off to see GI shortly but bloodwork from yesterday has probably been compromised from his viral infection - flu like thing. His white blood count is in normal range now but that could be the infection. His ESR and CRP are raised which they say could be the viral infection.

He is on no meds at the moment as came off azathioprine due to low WBC in Sept and his pentasa has just petered out. Shakes only. Gi no doubt will have something to say later!

His stool I think smells ok but it was a bit strong a week or so ago but it has been like that before.

He has currently talked me out of my neurotic state but we will see what the doc says. He doesn't want to go in saying it all negatively in case he ends up with loads of procedures. He probably is right as he seems to know his body well.
