Hi I'm posting on behalf of my husband. I hope this is okay.
Since having his gall bladder out 3 weeks ago he has barely eaten anything due to ongoing pain which has been diagnosed as inflamed bowel after being readmitted last week after going to GP.
He has ongoing severe pain that comes in waves across his stomach and bowel and although trying to follow a simple diet has not been able to keep food down and has continual diarrhea.
For the 4 weeks where he was in hospital prior to gall bladder removal he was treated for pancreatitis and put on iv antibiotics for 4 weeks for an unknown high temperature whilst in hospital. The doctors have done ct scan and tests on pancreas as that has been there main concern.
He has lost 2.5 stone in around 7 weeks and he's been discharged with codeine and anti sickness drugs but no dietary advice regarding his inflamed bowel. He is now waiting for an endoscopy.
My concern is he is getting no nutrients at all and I'm at a loss as to what type of food I could prepare for him to try.
He is in pain as soon as food is eaten ( a cracker and melon yesterday).
He is literally a shadow of the man he was 7 weeks ago.
Any help or advice would be welcome as we are not sure what to do next .
Thank you

Hi. I am terribly sorry for what your husband is going through. How is he with nutrition shakes. I lost 34 lbs. in 1992 during one of my flares and they put me on Ensure. If you have the time, keep us updated.

I had my gall bladder removed in Sept.this year.I already had IBD.I took digestive enzymes prior to Op. and still take them now.Anything fatty or greasy does not agree with me.I would try mashed potatoe, white rice,steamed/boiled chicken.I also have a high nutritious powder mixed with milk with chia seeds added.(H&B) This probably won't be of any help to you,if he can't keep anything down. All I can suggest is little and often.I really hope he gets sorted soon.Best wishes.

Hi, thank you for your help. He's able to keep small portions of chicken and mashed potatoes down (griddled). Eating every other day. He has fortisip drinks at the moment, advised 3 a day. And seems to be keeping those down. Have been prescribed creon pancreatic replacement enzymes to take before eating. The waves of pain have reduced but he has constant shoulder pain and pain across the locations of his bowel.
