victoria,
I have uc and have noticed inflammation in my knees. I am a 23 year old nanny and can't get stuck crouching etc. I have been drinking bone broth and gelatin snacks. I stopped for a while and now its back but maybe not so coincidentally around the time I noticed other symptoms back. I have not actually been in remission yet fully. I have also heard of ppl getting arthritis from chronic joint inflammation (anyone with knowledge of this?) So my question to you is how do you deal with it and does it go away fully when you are in remission?

Are you on any medication for the UC? Treating the underlying condition will be good for reducing your joint pain as well. Generally if you have IBD alone the joint pain is not actual joint damage but rather just pains that accompany the illness.

I am off my prednisone and was feeling pretty much in remission. I am happy to hear that constant joint problems dont necessarily end in arthritis etc.

How long were you on pred? Pred can cause physical damage to bones. I have Osteoperosis now due to being on prednisone. My doctor hopes the damage is reversible since I'm young but I'll need to go on a new medication.

I was only on it for 4 months but that is good to know. I never wanted to be on it but definitely want to find something else for next time:(

Are you on any other medications? Prednisone is only supposed to be temporary and is just supposed to help until a long term med has time to kick in. 4 months is a little long to be on it, but if you are already off of it now, just be aware for the future. Like NGNG said, it can cause joint problems if used for a long period of time, but I don't know the time frame of that.
It is common for people with Crohn's or UC to see a rheumatologist to check your joints and bones for various types of arthritis or other bone and joint problems.
I take a lot of hot baths with epsom salt, and icing the swollen area has helped me in the past as well. I do take advil when it is intolerable, but advil or any other NSAID is not recommended for use in people with IBD as it can cause ulcers and internal bleeding, so it is kind of risky.
