Hello all! I'm back in school after my whirlwind bout with Ulcerative Colitis last year. Now 40 lbs, three major surgeries, and a missing colon later, I'm here. Funny how the entire year is kind of a blur now. I watched Star Trek Next Generation in its entirety, the A-Team in its entirety, Heroes, all in our collection of DVDs, all in my inlaw's collection of DVDs, all in my parents' collection of DVDs, and now I'm done.

I'm much more intimately associated with bathrooms all over my home-region, and if there are any other Utahns out there, or others planning to visit Utah, my bathroom experiences have led me to the idea of starting a potty blog, rating the different restrooms I am forced to frequent.

Stop in and take a look. www.restroomrater.blogspot.com Anyways, I'm excited to have found this forum and to connect with others about their experiences. I've enjoyed, and am encouraged by what I've read so far.

Congrats Nathemus on feeling such much better, although I hate what you had to go thru to get there!! I love your idea of the potty blog, although I am not in Utah but in Florida. Recently while traveling to SW Georgia I had some aweful experiences with potties, and one who actually refused to let me use his. (results were not good as there were no other bathrooms for miles). Anyways, welcome to the forum and if you need info on NW Fla bathrooms, let me know!!~ :poo:

Hello Nathemus, and welcome. I heard recently on the radio that someone in Toronto has started something similar, where their website rates the best and worst bathrooms in the city (Toronto, Ontario, Canada). It is a great idea - I'll have to check out your site later when I have more time.

Good health and best of luck.

Hi Nathemus
and welcome

Love your idea too, and if you wanna know about the public conveniences here in the UK, just shout! At the train station in Leeds in costs 30p to spend a penny! lol xxx

Hi Nathemus, whilst finding bathrooms is on your agenda I would also look into trying to get your Gi to get you Questran (Cholestyramine) it controls the bowels, and is a must post op. I was on it for a couple of years and now I am ok and I had 2 resections. Just some thought. Welcome to the forum!!!

Hi Nathemus,
Glad you're doing better. So, what are the details on your 3 surgeries? How was your plumbing reconnected? J-pouch?

Thanks everybody, and I'll need to check into the Questran. As for more of the gritty(in the lingo I remember), they did a full colectomy, beginning with an ostomy in the lower small intestine, then waited for my body to recover. They proceeded with surgery to perform J-Pouch construction and then after ensuring it all would work through a fairly uncomfortable bowel flush, they took down the ostomy. Everthing is still in the normalizing phase, and my body is beginning to really learn to absorb nutrients again, although I can't seem to break the 135 mark for weight to get back to my prior weight.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the first with the idea of the potty blog. It would be fun to get connections all over the country with similar blogs linked so any city you visit has a blog for restrooms (and inevitably for recreation/tourism info) by a person who really knows.

Glad you are feeling better! For what it's worth, my uncle has had a pouch for about ten years now and although he goes to the bathroom quite often he still lives a very normal life. :)
