i was wondering if this pill is okay for an anal abcsess or boil. Dr. first gave me 1 week ago and didn't take, now its feels and looks same, not real bad pain. Would i need a different pill now since beginning when it was red and small. I've read some and seems like this pill is given mostly for bladder infections(augmenton). Should i go back and ask for another and what would be good to take. I don't think the region i live in had many ibd people. This one drug store 3 years ago gave me hydrocortosone enemas and said i was only one getting them. Now 2 weeks ago i went 1 hr. the other way and he had to order pentasa for me and said he has nevered ordered pentasa before. I can't believe this. Dr.'s are not too knowledges about it here, at least here

Hey matty,

My son had an intra abdominal abscess, it was on his psoas muscle so closer to his right hip, he had it drained and was prescribed Augementin Duo Forte. It worked for him in keeping the infection and abscess at bay until he had surgery.

Has your abscess been drained or is it discharging?

Pentasa is a normal treatment for Crohn's. It is a first-line treatment. Where are you located at? Perhaps we can help you find a doctor you would be more comfortable with

If it is worth anything (everyone is different), I was put on Keflex and Bactrim for a skin infection and it did not bother my crohn's.

thanks for replies. No it hasn't drained yet. Its been there like about 9 days. is that longand should it have drained already. I felt around it today again and its still same size, a little smaller than a marble. I know i'm being stubborn but i am feeling more eachday to take antibiotics. So tomorrow i quess i go see dr., and see if i need differnt ones. Feeling abit foolish at how much i am seeing a dr. for this. This is how i am when i first get some medical condition and after awhile i start getting use to it, like when i first got a hemmi and fissure, now i deal with them myself and get dr. to check only if fissure acts up and sometimes i don't even and it passes. About my gastro dr., i feel good about her, i saw her 3 weeks ago and she added entocort to my pentasa. The pentasa was helping but not completely and would like to try these before any other stronger meds. The general dr's around this area are the ones i have problem with, i believe they don't know much about it. There has to some but i don't know which ones. i see my gastro dr. in 2 months, she is very very busy, she covers 1 big region including where i live. She is the only gastro dr. in the small city. I could see another one farther, but i prefer this one for now and its about 3 hr. drive.

Get this taken care of ASAP. These can become very dangerous especially for us Crohnies if not treated with antibiotics. You have to remember our immune systems are like a 10 year old that just drank a 2 liter of mountain dew.

For an abscess to be effectively treated with antibiotics it needs to be drained first. If it isn't drained then the antibiotics can't penetrate it to treat the infection.

Perhaps your doctor can lance it??

I took the Flagyl/Cipro combo for a long while which made me so sick to my stomach. During the second round I told my doc no way would I use that combo again. He prescribed amoxicillin. The amoxicillin would not be as effective he said but I would tolerate it better. I believe amoxicillin is closely related to augmenton.

Good Luck

I'm the opposite, penicillin type drugs give me bad diarrhoea, whereas Flagyl and Cipro and so much easier to handle even thought they are much "stronger" anti-biotics.
