I'm 57, good health except I got UC. Real severe about 12 yrs ago, 8 days hospital and finally got under control. Then... went away. After about 2 years, I quit taking my Asacol/melesalimine.It's been almost 12 years, no signs. 3 days ago, came back on me real hard, no warning. Pretty bad and just as painful as the last time. The pressures are unbearable and of course nothing comes out except bloody drizel. Haven't had the dreaded "rush of blood" but have been in fear of it. Likely every 30 minutes or so all day and all night long...hard job ignoring the urge to push! Bed to bathroom for 3 days. I'm just miserable. But let me tell you what happened next. Today at about 4:30pm, my daughter visited me and brought me a very surprising bit of medicine. She brought me over a joint of pot. I smoked some of it, and I swear, within about 3 minutes, I just felt better. I could get out of bed, walk around without feeling like I was going to spill my guts all over the floor. I even wanted something to eat! All this within I swear 3 or 4 minutes! Now I realize there is probably some intoxicating power there, but it is now past 1:00am, my pressure is gone, I haven't been potty since 4:30pm, not one time. I have had maybe 3 or 4 minor urges since, but this is totally amazing! I am going to ask her to kept the rest of that joint for futher research in the next few days. My rear end is so paper burned that I fear it worse than the discharge....believe it or not, but I promise you, I feel better... I almost can't wait till I have to go, to see if the bleeding issue has been arrested... amazing....what say you?

Welcome to this forum. It is such a great place to share information.
That is great to hear how it worked for you. Let us know if it continues.
What type of Crohns (location) do you have?

Hey Gutshot, glad to hear that you found relief with MMJ. It's a beautiful thing...especially for gastrointestinal issues.

Medical cannabis is a great treatment option for IBD. Wish more people took it seriously. It can reduce nausea, increase appetite, and decrease inflammation. It can be used safely on a daily basis and replace all medications in my experiences. Since it is fat soluble, the medicinal effects (non psychoactive) of cannabis can be present for hours, even DAYS after ingestion. THC and CBD slowly make there way back into the bloodstream delivering a constant anti nausea, anti inflammatory and appetite stimulant effect. Most people wont give it a chance because of the initial psychoactive effects, but those dissipate with tolerance (just like a lot of medication)

I replaced all my other meds with MM for 4+ years. Stopped for a month recently and all my symptoms came back. Been back on it for a month and all my symptoms are slowly dissipating. There is a medical cannabis subforum that you should look into for information...or feel free to PM me with any questions you may have... :)

More people need to speak out about this to break the negative stigma associated with cannabis.

I am still in shock. Today, being about 6:15pm, I've had exactly 1 bm! YAY! No pressure, and SOLID stool, NO blood! I am just in shock and awe! From just a few puffs! Plus, it made me laugh a bit too! All and all, I'm convinced! I just can't hardly believe it, but well, there it is.....

Glad you could find some relief. :) It's a valid treatment option....they just haven't found a way to capitalize on it.

Hope you can continue to find that relief without any legal issues...that's only real danger with cannabis...the legal aspect. If it really works for you I'd suggest getting to a medical state. IBD is always one of the accepted conditions.

well that may be a trick. Seems as of right now, I'm in remission. I'll see how long it lasts. If it is reasonable, then the occasional trip to Colorado won't be too bad....hahaahaa. If it becomes a cronic problem then that advice will be considered...because at least for now, I am 100% convinced.

It has been many days now since my flare up, and I have had no recurrences of any symptoms. I am convinced totally.

There is actually a lot of scientific data showing the benefits of Cannabinoid use in many different diseases including Crohn's and UC. It can quiet some parts of the immune response so reduced ability to fight infection can be of concern. However, it can also have pronounced anti-inflammatory benefits and can suppress the GI spasms associated with an Irritated or Inflamed Bowel.
As always, I would highly recommend discussing the potential benefits and limitations of adding any new medication with your physician.
Best of Luck with whatever you and your physician decide.

Luckily I'm in remission now, but I'm very pleased that NJ has gone with a medical marijuana law that makes it accessible to me if I should need it. Particularly anyone with nausea it's supposed to be exceptionally effective.

MM has kept me pain free for three months. My pancolitis is in full force right now, I found out I was allergic to 5-ASA. I've got over a month to go before I get the test results to know whether I can take 6MP. Until then, I've got nothing. My GI offered cortisone, which I declined.

But it's not just the amount of pain. It has reduced the amount of stools each day by a significant amount (now: 3-5 times a day. Before, 5-10). Also, no more blood in my stool, unless it's a bad day. Bloody stools used to be a daily occurrence for me.
The month I stopped using it, I was still undiagnosed but I remember how worse my symptoms got.

Both scientific literature and my personal experiences have indicated that cannabis has amazing healing properties for my IBD, and that's enough evidence for me.
