Ive been having small reactions to Remicade for awhile. Some itching some hard time breathing ect once the benedryl kicks in though im fine...well today it didnt kick in fast enough. My cheeks turned bright red and I felt incredibky hot I had a heavy chest and hard time breathing and felt like my throat was closing up and of coarse itched like crazy. I aaked to go to the bathroom and attempted to calm down. My iv site has red sploches all over and my cheeks were red like a strawberry. By the time I got back to my seat the benedryl kicked in and I started to feel better.

This really sucks Remicade works really well for me and now im allergic what the hell body I hate you!

I have had a few too many problems with developing allergies to my Crohn's treatment too, and can sympathize. It can be a scary thing. Mentally it is exhausting trying to weigh your options with a medication you know is helping you, but harming you at the same time. Have you tried pre-medicating with steroids? For a short time I was able to continue an injectable medication I was allergic to as long as I did a medrol dose pack that I started before the shot, along with benadryl, both before and after. Eventually my body's hate for the drug won out, and I had to stop taking it, but the time the premedication bought me helped my insides heal quite a bit. Best of luck to you!

sorry to hear you are starting to react to REmicade. That stinks!!!

I know it is more trouble, but my feeling is not to keep taking something we are allergic too. It is too hard on your body.

The pharmacist told me that if you keep taking something you are allergic too, it will eventually start attacking your vital organs. Maybe different with REmicade, not sure. Better to find out.

You have every right to vent, stomp your feet and more-:)

Maybe if they do need to give you a new med., it will work well.

wishing you the best.

I premedicate with 2 tylenol, a benedryl and a steriod then wait a few minutes for the Remicade to be done mixed up. I knew the reaction was getting worse because I would feel more and more intensly itchy. When the itch would start I'd lay my head down and go to sleep by the time I woke up I'd be fine. this time it came on all at once. I thought I should tell the nurse but I didn;t want them to stop the infusion so I excused myself to the bathroom by the time I got back I was feeling better and told the nurse then about the reaction. She kept me on the infusion and had me moniter myself. It was scary though. I wonder if I take a benedryl at home if it would give more time for the benedryl to kick in...

I havent called my gi yet but I plan to here shortly

I am so sorry you are having a reaction to the remicade. I know how frustrating it is to be allergic to sooo many things. I also have chemical sensitivities. One thing you should definitely do before you give up on the drug is to hook up with an allergist. I had to be on an antibitoic low dose for years to help prevent the bad UTI's I was getting. I was allergic to the med but my allergist helped me to stay on it. The bad thing with remicade is that you are Not taking it everyday so your body has a chance to bulid antibodies to it quickly. Maybe an allergist might be able to figure out a way for you to continue it. I mean I would try that before giving up since it seems to be helping you...
