the best dr we should see is truly a rheumy, but I think unfortunately several lack experience with IBD patients. I was sent for hand surgery by the rhuemy with wrong diagnosis!!! But finally a long life experienced surgeon knew what was wrong with me. 2 other young hand surgeons were ready to operate on me. Its a chance I went for a 3rd opinion!!
X-ray, Ultrasound and MRI coulnt catch my inflammation, finally bone scintigraphy proposed by hand surgeon did, so remember this test if needed...
Could twisted fingers be osteoarthritis? If you are 50 or over this condition is pretty common and it is true not much can be done about it besides taking pain meds. I believe its possible help with diet modification though. Usually, IBD arthritis is non-deforming. When I say my fingers are curved, I meant kind of curved (bent) inwards when I wake up. But I dont have any joint deformation. Joint deformation is most typical of osteoarthritis or other inflammatory joint diseases, but not IBD arthritis. however, osteoarthritis should not exclude a combined IBD joint issue.
