Hi guys,
On 6/5 I had a colectomy and they removed 25 inches. That healed well. A ct scan showed no apparent leaks, but an abscess.
I went and had a JP drain put in for the abscess. At first it was red, but then turned brownish and smelled bad. I saw my surgeon and he put me on a course of augmentin and flagyl. This has not helped the smell. I just saw him again and he ordered a ct with a contrast to make sure it hasn't somehow gotten into my intestines. He said there are three outcomes: 1) abscess gone, remove drain 2) abscess not gone, keep drain 3) abscess leaks into intestines, keep drain and hope it heals or get another surgery.
I'm concerned about it being #3, of course. But 2/3 options leave me with the drain. I have done everything I read to help it. Currently, I have it double bagged with zip locks and in a sock and I can STILL smell it. I've washed it off, I've done everything. It makes me sick. In fact, every time I dump it, I immediately throw up (I have a weak stomach on top of it). I figured there'd be a contraption for sale for situations like this, but have found nothing. I'm ready to try a fanny pack if I have to keep to and go back to my job as a teacher in September, I need a solution. It is that bad.
Please, miracle worker, tell me what you did
