Jury Duty?

I've just been selected for jury duty. It's about six weeks out and I don't know if making a commitment is the right choice for me. I actually do want to do it, but what happens if I start feeling sick when I go?

Has anyone gone through jury duties since being diagnosed?

I got notice but didn't get selected or show up because my number never got selected. I understand about being fearful of making a commitment. Unfortunately it is a commitment and if you think now might not be the right time it's probably best to explain your disability. You definitely can't be on jury duty running to the bathroom or being so weak and in pain. Can you get off of it once it starts if you are sick? I guess they have to have some sort of mechanism in place to deal with that.

I've done Jury Duty and i know if you start a case and need to be taken off for whatever reason the case continues with minus one member on the Jury. I had to leave because i knew one of the arresting officers. Its not an issue and it does happen. Do not let your illness control what you do. Chances are you wont be sick.

Yes, I would contact the number on your letter and inform them of your health situation that may prevent you from participating.

I have never done it while having crohn's but I have been called on while in college. I called them and faxed over a letter stating I was a student out of town and a copy of my tuition bill and they were ok with me not appearing.

I imagine if you got a letter from your doctor that they might be willing to let you off the hook or at least find some sort of accommodation for you.

I did it a couple of years ago and actually flared towards the end of it. Luckily I wasn't on a trial so I called in sick. I had to provide medical evidence due to the law though.

I tried to do it once but ended up flaring; I guess the stress of waiting to be selected got to me. I haven't been stable enough in many years to do it since, though I have wanted to.
