just a quick question??

Hi everyone, just a quick question, been reading alot of the stories on here and kids with blood in stools and passing alot of blood, ( my heart goes out to them) my sons has never ever had blood in his poo or passes blood, does this mean his crohns is mild and we have maybe "caught" it early. He was diagnosed last year, aged 8. I thank god he doesnt suffer any symtoms and continues this way. currently on 6mp, salofalk and iron. xx

Hi Dodie,

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, everyone is different, so a lack of blood is not really an indication of the severity of one's disease. There are many people who suffer from very svere Crohns that have never had any blood. Often times it has as much to do with the location of the disease as anything. However, it's great to hear that he got a quick diagnosis and has found some meds that work for him. For most people, that is the first step to maintaining remission. I hope he continues to feel well.

thanks for the reply Cookie, im still learning about this condition even tho my husband has crohns too. he also has it mild altho at the beginning his diarhoea was awful, something that my son doesnt have either. so yes it makes sense what u just said about where the crohns is and the severity of it. thanx again for the reply. xx

Cookie is spot on dodie. My kids have their Crohns in the ileum and never pass obvious blood. I think when Crohns is flaring you most likely pass blood to some degree but for some people it is higher up and not in large amounts so you don't see it, like my kids.

I hope all continues to go well hun, may it last a lifetime!

Much love, :Karl:
Dusty. xxxxxxxx

Agreed with all above Dodie! And very glad to hear he's doing so well! Hey Dodie, tell us more about him. What's his name and his interests?

Hi Dexky, My sons name is Kian, 8 years old, a very active wee boy. Loves going out on his bike and playing around with his friends. Doing well at school too which im so proud of him for!! We also have another wee boy called Ethan, he is 6 years old, they both get along good, well, most of the time!! We are off to Glasgow for Kians check up on monday, last one was in january but we have regular contact with his ibd nurse which is fab, they deserve sooooo much credit for the work they do. How about you guys, how old are your children and are they also doin well? im so glad i found this forum, everyone is so helpful and puts my mind at ease when im worried. xxx

I just got diagnosed a few months ago and i've never ever had bleeding. I just had inflammation in my colon and abdominal pain/cramps. My cramping was pretty bad. I am feeling alot better with my medication. I hope your son feels better too. I started having issues at 19-20 im now 25.

Hi lola99, Glad you are feeling better with your medication, kian has 4 different areas with crohns, one being down at his anus, he had anal fistula which he had surgery on and it healed great, was treated with medical manuka honey, amazing stuff!! so far his bum been ok too, thank goodness!! xx

Thanks Dodie! Kian and Ethan sound like a lot of fun! My EJ is 11 and loves baseball, guitar and video games...not necessarily in that order!! EJ is much like Kian with his crohns. He's had it very mild since his initial pred taper about 1.5 yrs ago now:). Hope you stick around and get to know us all!!
