Hi all, I just joined your family and I want to welcome you to mine. I have alot of fear about this. I guess my first question is about remission. Will I ever get over the diarrhea? I get hungry and have found the more I eat the more I go. So I've cut down on eating and now only go 4-5 times/day. I pretty much am eating the brat diet right now. It was great feeling to find you!

Thanks Mike

HI Mike, Welcome to the forum, it's nice to meet you. I am sorry about your diagnosis. I have had crohn's now for 21 years and counting. Yes, you can achieve remission i did, i was symptom free for 15 years, but recently it has flared up again. About the diarrhea you can try immodium but, try not to over use it. it could cause it to worsen. But, you can get a prescription from your doctor for Lomotil medication, it's a strong verison of immodium. Are you taking any medications for your Crohn's? Yea, it good idea to keep you diet pretty under control with a low residue diet and lots of water to keep you self hydated because when you have a lot of diarrhea your lossing a lot of nutrients and electroloytes so i would try some gatorade it will replace the nutrients that your lossing and try some type of nutritional drink like Ensure, or boost. To keep your energy levels up.Also i would keep a diary of some sort and check out what foods trigger the diarrhea and check the ones that don't and stick with the ones that don't. Just a suggestion. anyway again welcome to the forum. this a very supportive place and great people with a world of knowledge. I wouldn't surf the net. you'll find all the information you want right here at this forum. From dieting , medications, just about everything you'll want to know. hope to see you around the forum. best wishes.

Hey Scott, thanks for the reply. Just started having d 3 weeks ago, got Dx last weekend they gave me asacol. I was really concerned about the diarrhea because I work delivering mail, which means I have to drive to a bathroom. Hope to talk to you more when I get a better feel on how to talk to people here.

God Bless
Mike

hi Mike, i'm glad you've found us! sorry to hear you've been having a tough time.
remission can be hard to define but i class myself in remission if i have very little or no symptoms, so the answer to your question in my opinion is no, once your in remission excluding the odd 'off day' you shouldn't have much diarrhea to the extent you have at the moment.
many people with active crohn's avoid fibre and stick to a low residue diet, this may help somewhat if you're not already doing this.
all the best and fingers crossed your meds work!
hannah.

Hi Mike and welcome! I am sorry you are struggling with frequent bathroom trips. It sure makes working difficult.

The goal of any Crohnie is to achieve remission where you don't experienece any symptoms at all. I sure hope asacol will help you to get better. In the meantime, you may have to alter your diet a bit, as Scott suggested, to reduce symptoms.
