Well i went for my 3 monthly check up

Every thing went well basically im feeling really good being on azathioprine and he said if things change theres a couple of other options.

He said he will see me in 6months if things go well

I have a question for you all,

I forgot to ask him if i could come off the azathioprine and i really want to.
Do u think it would really matter if i did as ive been feeling good for a while and hate being on pills??

It is great to hear you are doing so well hun...YAY!

As to the meds...I hate the thought of my kids being on Imuran but I fear the consequences of them not being on maintenance medication more. I see Crohns as a disease that lay in waiting and when the time is right it will again raise it's evil head. My hubby takes his asthma medication prophylactically so he can avoid a full on asthma attack and I figure it is the same with Sarah and Matt, if I can do anything to minimise the risk of Crohns actively returning then I will.

Of course the choice is yours, no one can make you take the medication but you need to make an informed choice. Ask yourself the questions and answer them honestly and the main one being...I am doing this well because of the medication?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for replying.

That is true people are telling me well the only reason you are feeling better is because of the meds, as for my disease its only very mild.

Im on 150mg of aza, so 3 tablets a day maybe i might start taking 2 tablets a day and see how i do.

Becca - a word of caution on lowering/stopping meds....way back when I was diagnosed, when I would go into remission my doc would have me stop my meds.....UNTIL I flared back up again - back to being sick, back on meds and waiting for them to work.....each time this happened the period of remission became shorter and shorter.....and stronger and stronger drugs were needed to accomplish remission.....

Becca, I would not suggest stopping your meds. They are what got you well and will keep you well. You should really discuss this with your GI, so he can fully explain the importance of your treatment. Please don't reduce or stop your meds without your doctor's knowledge.

Thanks for replying, i know its important to take it but i see it as i don't need to be on it as my symptoms were only mild before i got diganosed it was only the blood tests, ct scan and colonoscopy that showed more than that but the biospies showed only mild terminal ileitis.

In January before my gastro appt in Feburary i stopped taking it and only noticed the symptoms were just creeping up but only very minor just annoying it wasnt til my appt got cancelled because of the Febuary 22nd earthquake and got pushed back til May so i decided to start taking it again.

I told my Gastro doc what i did and he said it needs time to build up in your blood to get full affect which it does helps me but reduces my symptoms.

I know you don't want to take it. I _hate_ taking my meds. You need to though. Crohn's isn't going to go away unfortunately. You mentioned that when you stopped taking the meds, you started to have some issues. That's a message to stay on your meds. At the very least, talk to your Doctor about it, please! :rosette2:

I'm currently taking 4 separate doses of pills for a total of 12 pills, plus I have a liquid 4 times a day, and everything is supposed to be 2 hours apart. I won't even get into scheduling food in there. My point is that the longer I tried to just work through it all, the worse it got. Take a few meds now so that you don't take a gazillion when you are older.

(and I don't feel good to boot!)
