Hi everyone, I'm 17 and have just had my first infliximab infusion. It actually went surprisingly well considering I don't have any veins and was extremely worried, the nurses were lovely and the time went quick. I was wondering if it was going to benefit me in anyway how long after would I start to notice any improvements or is it different for everyone? Also I have quite a bad diet I eat a lot of fast food and just generally bad stuff would that effect the drug working in any way? I jus really want this one to work!! Lastly I'm currently on no other meds would that lessen my chances of the infliximab working or not ? Thank you x

It is different for everyone but generally a few weeks to 3 months. It is not uncommon today for those on Remicade to also be put on an immunosuppressant like 6mp, azathioprine, Imuran or methotrexate to try prevent the body from developing antibodies to Remicade. This would be the best chance to prolong treatment.

I didnt start to feel the benefits until after the 4-5th one. I used to have it 8 weekly but it has now been brought forward to 6weekly and has been amazing.
A bad diet wont affect the drug, but it definitely affect your crohns as well as you general health.
I'm still on aza which is supposed to help lower the immunity, which in turn may stop me making antibodies up against remicade. I also have a steroid every time before my infusion (cortizoid I think) and have heard others being given anti-histamines beforehand.

Thank you nogutsnoglory and Rygon for your replies - maybe my GI will put me on an immunosuppressant like methotrexate because previously on 6mp and Aza and they didn't agree with me. I should really improve my diet aswell. Fingers crossed that this one works I'm glad it worked for you guys!! X
