Hi everyone,

As stated i have just joined this forum. I myself dont have crohn's, but my mam does and she was diagnosed a long time ago, shortly after i was born, 27yrs ago. I am really just trying to find as much info as possible that might give me the knowledge to understand what my mam goes through, in turn hopefully supporting her in the best way possible. I really look forward to reading your posts even though i prob wont have much input in discussions.

Kind Regards,

Lee

Welcome to the forum, Lee!

It's really kind of you to put this much effort into understanding her condition. Does she talk about it often? Has she been feeling unwell lately?

Welcome to the forum. I think is is great that you are taking interest in your mother's health. Sorry to hear that she has been battling this disease for so long, I know the impact it must have had on you growing up with a chroniclly ill parent. My children are having to the same because I have been sick since birth.

There is a sub-forum that is dedicated to the caregivers here is a link to that section.

I hope that you find the comfort and support you need, we are here for everyone. I also hope that you mom is in remission or at least on her way to remission.

Hey there Lee! Wow, good for you educating yourself about the disease.

Is your mam open to discussing it with you? If so, we could give you some questions to ask her that you can then share here and we can provide additional insight.

Cheers for the invite everyone, Ye i cant see my mam having any problem discussing anything with me David. So this would be a great help cheers.

@ Sarahbear, ye she is in remission from the crohns, however her white blood count is dangerously low. So with this news, i really wanted to see if there was any conection to crohns and then i came across this forum.
See if i could describe my mam in one word, it would be a carer, and at the minute she is still running around looking after everyone else, but really she needs to be doing the opposite as to me she looks very unwell. So ye i suppose her recent demeanour has kinda pushed me on to gain some knowledge about crohns. Thanks. .

@earnellzwifey thanks for the reply and link ;)

A few questions for her:

1. What medications are you on?
2. What side effects do they give you?
3. What are your specific symptoms?
4. What do you wish people did differently for/around you?
5. Are you on any vitamins, minerals, or supplements?
6. Have you had any surgeries for your Crohn's Disease? If so, what kind?

That's probably a good start :)
