just want someone to listen to me :( And some love:)

Ever since I had a major surgery(appendix burst), in 2001 I had to take half my intestines out because the infection had blown into my intestines, ever since then I have had constant Diarrhea. I have not had a regular poo in 9 yrs. But the last yr it has gotten worse. In July of last yr I had constant blood diarrhea where it was just blood and it went on for 2 weeks before I finally decided to go to the ER. The doc said it "looks" like I have Crohns from my CAT scan or whatever type scan where you have to drink the barium. He referred me to a GI and at the time we had insurance and I had a colonoscopy scheduled. 2 days later I find out my insurance was canceled because my husband was layed off of work. So I couldnt get the colonoscopy done because I had to have 300 something to pay upfront. Now till this day neither one of us can find a job so we still have no insurance, but hes going to college now to help find a better job. Now to the point of this all: I just wanted to say some of the things I experience and see if it is Crohns since I havent been really diagnosed. Im in pain everyday! Especially after I eat something, which I have realized the worse for me is beef, lettuce and alcohol. I feel like my intestinal area going to explode. I feel so much pressure there along with stabbing pains. I wake up every morning in pain but its a dull annoying feeling. I had changed my diet the last month to try and loose weight so now Im eating alot of vegi's; (broccoli & corn). I tried eating salads but it hurt me so bad the next day. So Im eating more fiber than I ever use to. But now i either have diarrhea days or there are days where I cant go at all and the pressure from that hurts me so bad to.. I have trouble sleeping and i have night sweats. Im so lucky that a family member has a constant hydrocodone supply for his medical reason... I want help with my pains but I have no insurance so it sucks so bad!! Im hurting all the time and I feel my husband is getting tired of me saying im hurting and then wondering why Im hurting and what did it. I guess I just needed to talk to someone about all this. thanks for reading :)

Sorry Aimee, I can't imagine what you are going through. You really have to be careful what you eat, salads are a no no and lots of the veggies too and all that you can eat are steamed soft. Meat is hard to digest, I rarely eat beef, mostly chicken. I know about the medical system (as foretold on here) and if you can get a prescription from your doctor, Prednisone is cheap but side effects are a bit much but better than suffering. Glad you have a supportive hubby, that means alot. Glad you joined us, alot of wonderful and caring people here! Welcome!

Hmmm not good , sorry too hear you are struggling and with no help

as far as food goes I'd recommend not too eat corn or brocolli as they are normally not good for crohnies

I'd you can look up a low residue/low fibre diet this may give some relief an allow your bowel to heal slightly
I've got a basic meal plan I've been on too try relieving my symptoms and slowly I add one thing at a time too it an see how I react if good that becomes part my diet etc

I started on just steamed skinless chicken breast, mash potato, and tinned baby carrots as my lunch an dinner - not appealing I know but it did help
I've since found by trial an error some other foods I can eat comfortably too

hope this helps

Hi Aimee

I can only add to the other two posts, about red meat and salads, and Rob is right, a low residue diet would help, like potatoes white bread, chicken rice etc (what my gastro calls white food) no coloured food yet til you heal
I can't imagine what you're going through because living here in the UK, we have the NHS for everyone whether you work or not.
hope you can get some Pred from your GP, you shouldn't have to be in pain, that's not on
sending you get well wishes
Joan xx

Just wanted to send some love your way! I'm sorry for all you are going through. I agree with everyone here about the diet. Fiber is not good for us Crohnies.

I am really sorry aimee...have looked into applying for Medicaid since neither of you are employeed?...If you speak to a social worker in your area through the social service department, they may know of a low cost clinic where you can get some sort of tretment...Make sure you Google low residue diet.I hope you feel better.

If I had a computer I'd scan in my copy of low residue diet I got from the hospital an post it up it's very helpful

Welcome Aimee,
That really sucks that you cant get treatment because of no insurance. I agree with what everyone else has said about the diet. Especially about staying far away from corn, salad and beef, all are very hard to digest.
Try to stay positive and find some way to keep getting nourishment.
I hope you start to feel better.:)

Hi Aimee,

I'm sorry to hear about all this, especially that you lost your insurance. I don't have any insurance right now and I haven't qualified for state aid (my husband works part-time while going back to school and apparently he makes "too much" money!). Over the past 6mths I've had a ton of medical expenses and I found out that lots of clinics and hospitals have "charity assistance" programs (you have to ask about them)- I qualified for charity assistance at my GI's clinic and I only have to pay a nominal amount for an office visit and got a huge discount on my colonoscopy. So if you don't qualify for state aid ask about charity assistance/financial aid.

(((((hugs))))))

As said above, you need to go to the Department of Social Services and get some help. Then get that colonoscopy that you need.

Good luck. We're here to listen to you.

Aimee...Please call the CCFA. They should have somekind of support or direction for you to turn to. Also, look to your local hospital. There should be someone on staff (SHOULD?) that helps people without insurance. Also, some of the drug companies have some help for people without insurance. Is there some friend or close family member who can help or work with you? I am sending some prayers your way...Good luck! I hope you get some relief. Sue
