Hi Everyone,
I have crohns, for many years now. Ever since having my son I feel like I watch his eating habits and especially his poop, to see if he has any signs of crohns. I'm always a little paranoid. Anyways, usually his stool is well formed and quite firm. A few days ago he had a very loose stool, then it went back to normal. Then today, two loose stools and looks like a bit of clear mucous when he wiped. Not sure what would cause the change? No change in diet.

I would definitely watch him and if it continues, consult a pediatric GI. They can start with a doing a Fecal Calprotectin test and blood work before going on to more invasive tests (if they are warranted).

There are lots of things it could be honestly, and Crohn's is just one of them.

Does he have any other symptoms? Joint pain, slowed growth, weight loss (or no gain), belly pain or mouth sores etc.

No other symptoms, the odd time he says he has a tummy ache, but there is usually reason for it. He did have a tummy bug a week or two ago, not sure. Otherwise everything is fine. He does have a peanut allergy, so I am also watching for any new allergies or even celiac.

Kids can also grow into food intolerances - like lactose.

It could really be many things, so I'd see if it continues, and if it does, either talk to your pediatrician or go to a pediatric GI.

Big hugs
It hard when you know what to look for
Two kiddos here one with ibd and one without
So always on the watch
The GI was kind enough to see my second kiddo quickly
Sometimes even normal kiddos have a few off days

But watching and consulting your ped for advice helps
Or even seeing a ped GI
They can steer you down the path of lactose intolerance vs ibd
Or something else

Hope things calm down soon
